Era Might
I'm curious if anyone has experience using stuff like MIT's OpenCourseWare that make their class syllabus, notes, etc. available. I want to start using these resources but seems like it could get pricey buying books for every course I use. Anyone have any tips / experiences to share? GregorMendel
iTunes U! There are countless courses in many diverse fields, most of which from reputable universities, and include associated class materials as well as a semester's worth of lectures to enjoy at your leisure. In college as a cloistered biology student, I fell in love with podcasts in general, what with being free and allowing me to listen in on topics I just didnt have time to explore (Cramming ECON 110 into a summer semester has left me with a void that only Planet Money and Freakonomics have been able to fill lol). As a now even more cloistered medical student, I relish long drives to Ohio or St. Louis (or the even longer act of washing my dishes) which let me learn something I would have almost no opportunity to otherwise. While Im at it, let me drop a huge plug for "The Civil War and Reconstruction Era" (HIST 119, Yale) by Dr. David Blight. It occurs to me that you may be more interested in matters of theology or philosophy, and while I cant speak for the relevance or quality of those courses, I am aware that there are several options available on iTunesU that might interest you :)
Lilllabettt
I haven't bought textbooks since freshman year of college and I don't ever intend to. Even truly crappy libraries usually have inter library loan - what they don't have they can get for you from somewhere else. Check it out. Probably has saved me thousands of bucks over the years.
