Pia Jesu
The Byzantine nuns' website--and Eastern Monasticism--is so interesting, Dame Agnes! Thank you for posting the link. If I understand correctly, each stage of their formation can be extended. This certainly shows respect and concern for the individual's growth and maturation in their vocation. As a "Roman," it's also beautiful to see how the rich traditions, history and rituals are being retained. I was wondering if the Megaloschemos (3rd. degree) lived a more-hermit type life in the monastery (maybe in a hermitage?). You've got to love the name of their newsletter--Pomegranate Blossoms. truthfinder
Since they aren't Roman, they wouldn't be subject to Roman Canon law. What does Eastern canon law say about religious' formation? Or does it indicate formation length at all?
genesisweavers
Eastern Catholics aren't subject to Canon Law??? That can't be true. Eastern Catholics are Catholics - there are multiple rites within the Catholic Church - and they are all Catholic and all under the Pope.
Sponsa-Christi
The Eastern Churches have their own law, which is different from the 1983 Code of Canon Law. Each individual Church has its own proper law, and the 1990 Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches contains norms that apply to the non-Latin Churches in general.
