CrossCuT
Was he seriously trolling about Bill Nye not being a scientist this whole time? I must have lost my humor receptors.
PhuturePriest
Im speaking as a whole. But anyway. YAY! I finally watched (most) of the video FP. Do you feel similarly to what i wrote in my summary? Maybe some people have a different take on the debate. This is my take on the debate: Bill Nye: "Look at this ice! Scientifically speaking, it's impossible that it got this way in just six thousand years!" Ken Ham: "Genesis."

NotreDame
Not the whole time, but now he is. Was not trolling previously, though I did find the thread amusing at times. Now I'm not trolling at all. I've tried to make a couple of jokes poking fun at myself and my "obsession with the term scientist." None were serious. I even used the irony smiley in a couple places in case it wasn't already obvious.
PhuturePriest
Pretty much This is why you don't let protestants run away with the Bible. They'll make insane claims like everything in the Bible is literal, which is something that was never believed until the 20th century.
CatholicsAreKewl
To be honest, I likes kens presentation of his material. He really knows how to work with PowerPoint. Though kens the head of the creationist museum, I think there may have been others who could have offered better arguments for his case. I think the fact that there are moon landing conspiracy theorists who are able to stump supposed experts in a debate setting shows that any point can be presented convincingly given the right amount of ammunition. Lawrence krauss had a more interesting debate with a published physicist on his application of science to prove religious belief. http://youtube.com/watch?v=pTdUODzAW6o Edited February 7, 2014 by CatholicsAreKewl

Are you talking specifically about interpreting Genesis literally? In "The Incarnation, Birth, and Infancy of Our Lord," St. Alphonsus de Ligouri says, "After the Redeemer was born, God was more loved by men in a few years than he had before been in the lapse of four thousand years, since the creation of man." "Creation of man" doesn't particularly mean "creation of the universe".
KnightofChrist
Stop making the jokes. They're just exhausting at this point. Stop feeding the troll. Oh come now dear boy, he's not a troll. Just because he provided a highly skeptical and different stance on the matter of whether or not Bill Nye is a scientist, than you and others, and just because he didn't back down after being challenged, doesn't make him a troll. All it means is that he has a different opinion, and defends it like he believes it. And that's ok, and if you want to believe Mr. Nye is a real deal holyfield Scientist that's ok too. That said I don't really agree with either of you, I don't really take any position on the matter. I'd lean towards him being more of a science teacher though, but that's not set in stone. I only found it interesting that when I asked what type(s) of Scientist Mr. Nye is, those that say he is had difficulty in answering such a simple question. To the point most just ignored me when I asked it repeatedly. Crosscut was really the only one that bothered, though I didn't find it convincing enough as proof to think of him as a Scientist proper. Still I thank her for making the attempt and not ignoring the question.

NotreDame
Guys, I've worked in technology my whole adult life (longer than your entire life FP.) I have real scientists in my family (My sister is getting her PHD in the same clean air lab I did my senior thesis in.) I worked with science/engineering PHD's on a daily basis in every role I've ever had. I might be wrong about the scientist thing (though I don't think I am), but I assure you I am in a position to have an opinion on it. And this morning I was joking... I'm not ever going to see the word "scientist" on phatmass ever again without wanting to make a joke out of it. Just like I want to make alien-reptile jokes about everything, but I didn't want Julian to take it personal.
