ToJesusMyHeart
What should I do: a) help the International Justice Mission in the Philippines rescue victims enslaved in sex trafficking and arrest the pimps who kidnapped them, b) partner with Tiny Hands International to help build homes and a school for abused, trafficked, and orphaned children in Nepal where they can safely live and get educated, or c) help create a safe home of healing, comfort, love, restoration, and hope for girls ages 7-17 who have been rescued from sex trafficking in Houston and other areas nearby by furnishing the Restore Her home project in my college town. I understand that there is no wrong answer. They are all good causes. I'm simply looking for your biased or un-biased opinion. I will only be helping monetarily. I'm working with an organization at my school and our goal is to raise $110,000 collectively for all three projects.
Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
Sorry i don't know. Your choice. Monetary charity i usually keep local except for phatmass, but that is usually on the odd occasion i give to projects that aren't local, and that doesn't help does it. :) Edited February 5, 2014 by Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
blazeingstar
Helping internationally you may get more "bang for your buck" but you are an American, and if our country goes to pitts, then we'll be just as bad off as those other places. The fact is that there are 2 classes in America, and just basic awareness of that would do so much good and help us to be better.
Nihil Obstat
Have you looked into each of the three organizations in terms of how effectively they spend their donation money, and where it goes?
add
none of the above the collection plate at my parish gets it all. (as far as giving to an anonymous entity)
Basilisa Marie
I chose C because I'm a big fan of knowing that one's donation went to a specific thing, like "it helped build THIS house and helps THESE people." :) But that's just me.
Oremoose
Have you looked into each of the three organizations in terms of how effectively they spend their donation money, and where it goes? I was thinking the same. See if you can find out which one has better bang for your Buck. Other than that I would go to C or D (D as in dUST give him the money for our site). I say that because I think we should merely take care of our own; those that live in our backyard. So if you can help with a local Charity DO IT! IgnatiusofLoyola
Have you looked into each of the three organizations in terms of how effectively they spend their donation money, and where it goes? I think that's an excellent suggestion. I also support the idea of giving to local organizations, starting with the parish you attend, and then, if you have additional funds, looking at local charities. Personally, most of my charitable giving goes to a couple of monasteries of Catholic nuns and Religious Sisters. They take poverty seriously and I know that not a penny of my donation will go to waste. The nuns and Sisters have been VERY generous with me with their prayers, both for myself, and for others. Since I don't deserve their prayers, the least I can do to thank them is to help support their life. BTW--At the risk of sounding weird, in my case, "I" don't make the decision of how much money to give and to whom. God tells me. I don't hear a voice or anything like that. I just "know." I'm going through a time in my life when I spend a lot of time begging God to tell me what he wants from me, and more specifically, where he wants me. (I need to move soon.) But, once in awhile, I just "know" God wants me to make a donation of a particular amount to a particular organization. I don't even think twice about it. When I get that rare "signal" from God, I simply act. The result is that I can take no personal credit for making any donation, or even pat myself on the back for being a good Christian, because it wasn't my doing. I have the very rare blessing (well, rare for me) of being allowed to be a conduit. That may not be way anyone else here decides where to give money, but that's how the decision is made in my case.
