Freedom
Don't you just love buying Girl Scout Cookies? Well it is time to not buy their fattening cookies any longer and if you do; it is on your conscience! A number of Girl Scout councils have partnered with or currently partner with Planned Parenthood Federation of America http://www.100questionsforthegirlscouts.org/100/pp.cfm
PhuturePriest
This isn't a direct cooperation with evil. If you choose not to support them through buying cookies, that's fine (I don't), but it's not a sin if you do.
Freedom
Buying cookies so they can help kill babies, yeah not a sin…. c'mom! (rolls eyes)
Lilllabettt
planned parenthood aside, girl scouts is going through a really weird period. basically taking their own press way too seriously. Creeping girls out or boring them to tears. Ex: they are turning away from actual scouting and camping. Replacing that active stuff with a leadership "curriculum," workbook, etc.
Semper Catholic
Did you even read that website you posted? Bunch of links to youtube videos, bill oreilly, and other unsubstantiated sources. Not exactly going to make anyone throw pigs blood on some girl scouts any time soon. Instead it's yet another attack on an organization that provides and instills leadership to young girls. cartermia
I quit girl scouts when I found out about it. And also it is not just killing the babies but it is also the women's health (metal and physical.) Also don't support March-for-Dimes.
PhuturePriest
Buying cookies so they can help kill babies, yeah not a sin…. c'mom! (rolls eyes) It's in the catechism. Sending money to Planned Parenthood is direct cooperation with evil. However, buying a product from a company is not direct cooperation with evil, because you are buying their product and cannot control where they put their money. It's not a sin to buy cookies from the Girl Scouts, or coffee from Starbucks (Which also supports Planned Parenthood). If you don't believe me, there are many theologians around who can verify. OnlySunshine
I haven't bought Girl Scouts on purpose for at least 2 years. I also haven't donated to Salvation Army in a long time. My parish has a different girls group that is VERY similar to Girl Scouts without all the questionable stuff with it. I'd rather donate to them than GSoA.... ploomf
I'd agree Girl Scouts are going through a weird period. My cousins have pulled their daughters out and put them in something else, they don't do fun stuff anymore and the girls were really starting to dislike it. SilentJoy
Ex: they are turning away from actual scouting and camping. Replacing that active stuff with a leadership "curriculum," workbook, etc. This boring stuff was happening way back when I was a scout. I wanted to be a boy scout so I could do things that were actually interesting but they weren't very inclusive. :P Also, they were already improvising with the liturgy; they had the class vote on whether we should say "to help people at all times" or "to help others at all times." Also, look at modern cookies in comparison to a couple decades ago. It used to be that the cookies came stacked in solid rolls; now, at least half of the volume is just plastic spacers. I'm already too disappointed in the cookies even if I didn't have a problem with the worldview.
PhuturePriest
It actually is weird how the Girl Scouts of America is incredibly liberal and supports things like Planned Parenthood, but the Boy Scouts of America is (At least for the time being) incredibly Christian-based and conservative. There was that controversy awhile ago about letting openly gay men be scout leaders (Which there is nothing wrong with), but it says in the Scout manual that the Boy Scouts have a Christian tradition, and that it is a very religious institution. Boy Scout camps have prayers before meals, and there are services and directions to churches available everywhere. I'm sorry, I suddenly had a picture of grown-up Girl Scouts in a convent, supporting themselves by selling altar breads with little plastic spacers between...and everyone complaining 'cause they used to get a lot more altar breads in a box... :nun2:

I have to walk through their workshop to go to the bathroom when I'm at work. The other day I got to watch them working for a little bit, it was fun. Boy Scout camps have prayers before meals, and there are services and directions to churches available everywhere. Boy Scouts now accept "openly" gay members. The differences between the two speak more along the lines of the societal gap between how young girls are still treated and how young boys are still treated. It's not surprising that more traditional groups promote boy scouts and shun girl scouts, nor is it surprising that each grout fosters those same respective ideals. Generally need more accurate reporting then a scare tactic click bait website to form a coherent argument for or against though.
CatherineM
At least the Girl Scouts aren't letting boys in. My Camp Fire Girls now have boys. The Boy Scouts outlawed gays originally because of lawsuits because of pedophile scout masters.
