arfink
Last month I asked people who their favorite saints are who also have a feast day during that month. Then I drew a picture depicting that saint and engraved it into wood, and picked the person who suggested the saint I arbitrarily chose to receive a free engraving. It went really well, and I want to do it again for February. So, who is your favorite saint who has a feast day in February? Unlike last month where I had an absolute favorite (St. Thomas Aquinas), I don't actually have any inordinate favorites in February. So if you want to be the winner, make sure you tell me what day their feast is on, and why you think they rock! Leave your reply in this thread. NB: The rules have changed slightly. If you suggested the winning saint you will be entered into a drawing, with names to be drawn at random by the lovely and impartial Ploomf. Nihil Obstat
I guess St. Valentine is the obvious one. Although the questions surrounding him possibly exclude it. Edited February 4, 2014 by Nihil Obstat
EmilyAnn
Scholastica (Feb 10) Because Benedictines are awe.some. And when she died her soul ascended to heaven in the form of a dove, which is also pretty cool. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows (Feb 27) I think he's awesome because he shared my devotion to the sorrows of Our Lady.
Kateri89
Oooh I like this thread! I will pick St. Josephine Bakhita whose feast day is February 8th :) this works out well because isn't it also black history month? Even though we tend to remember African-Americans and not Sudanese nuns who joined religious orders in Italy :)
SilentJoy
The Virgin Mary. (I win, by the way...)
cmaD2006
This singer will go with: St. Blaise :)
ChristinaTherese
The seven founders of the Servites (Feb. 17) because they were prosperous businessmen who left their buisness and homes to live a religious life. If I can nominate others I would second St. Scholastica (Feb. 10).
SilentJoy
The Virgin Mary. (I win, by the way...) If not Our Lady of Lourdes, then Scholastica.
SilentJoy
Or St. Cyril. If Paul and his Ninety Companions are nominated, will you draw all ninety?
SilentJoy
Nooooo, wait, I didn't realize Polycarp was this month (23rd). I used to have two big goldfish named Ignay Fish and Polly Carp. Polycarp, bishop of Smyrna and disciple of the Apostle John. He denied the Eucharist to the heretic Marcion. When Marcion demanded to be recognized, Polycrap replied, "Yes, I recognize you - as the son of Satan!" He was later condemned to be burned at the stake as an "atheist" (because Christians didn't acknowledge Roman gods) but the fire wouldn't touch him. Since he kept praising God in the midst of the not-so-deadly fire, the Romans got fed up and stabbed him to death.
Ancilla Domini
I used to have two big goldfish named Ignay Fish and Polly Carp. You are my hero. :winner:
OnlySunshine
St. Agatha (February 5th) She is my mom's patron saint this year, as I've stated, and I'd love to be able to give her something since she just had surgery. :)

One of my favourites, because he taught Irenaeus. :)
arfink
Despite the inherent difficulty of depicting him well, I have seen more mentions of St. Polycarp than any other saint. By sheer popular vote then, he might become this month's saint...
Nihil Obstat
I change my vote to Polycarp.
