NotreDame
I definitely found that to be true. A lot of schools on the Newman Guide have core classes that can't be found at many schools. That means that transfers often have to graduate later than expected. I would say that going to a JC defeats the purpose of going to a school that offers a classical liberal education, especially since those core classes are so important. If one was to go to a state/secular school, especially if they were getting an engineering, science, or business-ey degree, then going to a JC makes a ton of sense with today's tuition rates. You'd only be trading one wishy-washy prerequisite for another.
4588686
Just don't go to a private school unless it's a Duke or a Harvard or some other institution that's going to open doors. The rates that places like Franciscan charge are absolutely obscene. You don't want to start out in life with a theology degree (alone) and 50k in debt. CrossCuT
the rates for pretty much all higher educated are obscene.

That's about the most sense I've ever heard from you, not counting all that stuff you said about Ohio.

As I said a little later in the thread, double major with something like biology on top of theology.
LittleWaySoul
I'm a double major in Philosophy and Theology, and thinking about getting a double Masters in those, as well as looking into the Advanced program during my undergrad to get some Masters credits done. I'm in the Honors Great Books program and am used to reading dense texts, Church Fathers, and Philosophy. I already have a minor in French and am looking into any opportunity I can find to learn Latin, Greek, and German. Will I still have a problem getting into a PhD Theology program after getting a Master's at Franciscan? I'm actually concerned now, with what you're all saying. Right now it looks like you're taking more than the "normal" workload. Although it depends on what programs you're looking at, you should be okay. Just make sure you're talking to some really good professors (preferably ones in the concentration you want to go into) to give you stellar recommendations and make sure you have a great writing sample. Oh, and you probably need at least a 700 on the GRE verbal. Edited February 8, 2014 by Basilisa Marie

PhuturePriest
Yes Well, I'll have to re-think this, then. I don't intend on going to graduate school.

PhuturePriest
What do you want your career to be? Theology would be the goal. The other degree is something to keep me going if I can't find a job in theology.
