PhuturePriest
I have some questions concerning Franciscan, and since I know there are people here who go to the fine University that is Franciscan, I figured I would make a thread about it. What are grants and scholarships there like? I went on the website and it said I qualified to only pay $21,000 a year, but I heard something a while ago that students for the first two years don't get scholarships or anything. Is that true? This might seem weird, but I heard a lot of the student body smokes. Is this true? I have a lifelong hatred towards smoking, and I don't know if I could live with a perpetual headache every day. :P Those are it for now, but I'm sure I'll have more questions as I look into it. PhuturePriest
I know a lot of people who go there to find spouses. Benedictine is the same way. It's difficult to leave there without getting engaged or being in a relationship with the person who you will eventually get engaged to.
Basilisa Marie
I didn't go there, but I've been to campus a few times in the past couple years, and once for their St. Francis celebration (that was a lot of fun!). It seemed that pipe smoking was a very cool thing for guys to do, but it didn't seem like it was in your face all the time. Actual alumni may know better. Oremoose
I know a lot of people who go there to find spouses. From what i am told most Catholic Colleges are "Ring before Spring" schools.
ChristinaTherese
From what i am told most Catholic Colleges are "Ring before Spring" schools. Not just Catholic. The small Protestant ones I know are the same.
NotreDame
In the same way, they are also the types of schools that will lead to lifelong friendships, since you'll always have the faith in common.
Basilisa Marie
From what i am told most Catholic Colleges are "Ring before Spring" schools. I was all set to refute this... but then I thought about it and yup, my alma mater counts. It must be a superCatholicyoungadult thing.
LittleWaySoul
OMG LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT THE MRS DEGREES. IF WE DO, I WILL REFUSE TO FURTHER PARTICIPATE IN THIS THREAD. GOODNESS. I currently attend Franciscan. (1) No, you *do* get scholarships in your first years. I'm not sure where you learned otherwise, but that's incorrect. You can also apply for returning student scholarships in the winter while you're here. (2) There's a decent amount of smokers here, but I hardly ever find it to be a nuisance. It's really not bothersome 95% of the time, as those who smoke are respectful of others for the most part, and must be 30ft from the dorms whilst smoking. Hope this helped! :)
Nihil Obstat
Pipe smoke actually smells pretty good, especially in comparison to cigarettes.
the171
If you want lots of smokers, go to UD where they recently had a smoke out to protest a possible smoking ban. #gocrusaders UD is actually a great school though. But this isn't about UD.
CrossCuT
From what i am told most Catholic Colleges are "Ring before Spring" schools. My friend specifically went there to find a husband, and it worked!!! So Im happy for her. She also graduated with a "build your own" degree...I dont really know what that is but it worked for her. Lots of schools have those now, as something to attract students who otherwise might not consider the school if it doesn't have the exact major they want. I hadnt heard of it before my friend told me she got one. She did it only to graduate at the same time as her fiance though.
NotreDame
There is nothing wrong with an MRS or MR degree as part of a double-major. Yes, UD is a good school, especially if you are already in Kansas. They used to call Stuebenville "stupidville" and viewed it as a charismatic type school, while they viewed themselves as more intellectual.
