YHZRosko
It baffles me when people have a problem with things like this: http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Some+Ottawa+doctors+refuse+prescribe+birth+control+pills/9450917/story.html I used to live in Ottawa, and I know that almost all clinics in the city will happily prescribe birth control and refer for other "family planning" services with no qualms whatsoever. These doctors have chosen not to provide services contrary to their beliefs, and I think this is completely reasonable. The double standard applied in cases like this bothers me. There seems to be a feeling that because they receive public money in the form of payments from the provincial health insurance systems (Family doctors in Ontario are in private practice, not public employees, as a rule) that they should be provide every possible service. I have no problem with any doctor refusing anyone a non-emergency service contrary to their beliefs. Just because we're free to obtain "family planning" services on the public system doesn't necessarily mean that every doctor has to agree to this! The relevent medical associations seem to say that it's clear that they don't have to refer for abortions at all, and that it's a grey area for the rest of it, which to me says there's no rule saying they have to provide these services. Anyway, this sort of "but, you have to!" attitude really irks me.
CrossCuT
My mother is a pharmacist and whenever someone is getting a birth control or related prescription she simply gets someone else to fill it for her. As long as there is someone else able to complete the task I dont see a problem with it but some people DO need birth control or other related things for medical reasons. As long as the health of the patient is always TOP priority and there is someone willing to step in to complete the prescription etc. Although (someone correct me if I am wrong) but there has been a Conscience Clause protecting those who did this however I believe Obama has been wanting to take it down, or already done so. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conscience_clause_(medical)#History
