Nihil Obstat
I think it's naive to think that people, especially those in the more conservative factions, aren't upset that Francis is portrayed as the "Cool Pope" by most media outlets. Especially considering that it's almost a complete 180 from the views of his predecessor. How are Francis' views 'a complete 180' from Benedict's? They are different, but opposite? Now that is naive. Semper Catholic
How are Francis' views 'a complete 180' from Benedict's? They are different, but opposite? Now that is naive. Certainly not his views but his media portrayal
Semper Catholic
I kinda started drowning you out when stated your conspiracy theory about how the Vatican runs. I know you know more about Vatican History then me. kind of an interesting view point considering the centuries of history that say otherwise. Watch The Borgas. Yes it's not completely accurate but there's a lot of in sight into how the Church is run.
Nihil Obstat
Certainly not his views but his media portrayal So then refer back to my first post. I do not have a lot to say about that. We would be talking about outliers who, as a whole, do not represent most Catholics or most secular people, and who by virtue of that opinion itself, are not looking at this issue in a particularly reasonable manner. It is just as easy to say that "some people somehow think that his wide acceptance in the secular world is necessary and sufficient condition of his being a good Pope". But neither that, nor your post, really represent the views of all that many people, both are obviously incorrect, and framing it that way mostly just gets in the way of having constructive discussions. Watch The Borgas. Yes it's not completely accurate but there's a lot of in sight into how the Church was run in the Medieval Ages. Fixed it for you. I've read plenty of books and watched documentaries specifically about the Vatican, so I know sufficient knowledge about the Vatican to know you're a conspiracy theorist. Luigi
I find it interesting that so many people continue to confuse the VICAR of Christ with Christ himself. The pope is human, not divine. He will make mistakes, he may not please everybody. But he's still the vicar of Christ. And a whole lot of people wouldn't be happy even if Jesus Christ himself were pope. Just let him do his job. IgnatiusofLoyola
Question: Did Pope Francis give a personal interview to Rolling Stone magazine? Did he knowingly participate in being put on the cover? My feeling about Pope Francis being on the cover of Rolling Stone might differ depending on whether Pope Francis did anything to encourage this interview, especially the cover, or whether Rolling Stone simply decided to put Pope Francis on the cover, without his having any say in the decision. However, even if he did participate (which I seriously doubt he did), my opinion would still be based on what Pope Francis has ACTUALLY SAID AND DONE, not on what others say about him. Also, since I haven't read the article, and don't know what it says, I don't have enough information to have an opinion. And, without this information, I am going to give Pope Francis the benefit of the doubt. I would do exactly the same with any of you--find out the facts before drawing conclusions. Just being associated with Rolling Stone magazine is not a sign of sinfulness. Jesus associated with prostitutes, and showed mercy to the woman at the well, and that did not make Jesus a sinner. The Pharisees accused Jesus of all kinds of sins, but that did not make Jesus guilty.
Mary+Immaculate<3
The article expressing the severity and strictness of Ratzinger and how teenagers would see him in nightmares convienently disregards the orthodox Catholic teens of my generation who honestly cleave to Church teaching and the papacy, regardless of the trendiness of a particular pontiff.
