cappie
Australia Day on January 26 commemorates the establishment of the first European settlement at Port Jackson, now part of Sydney, in 1788. Today we come before the Altar of God to thank God for all the blessings he bestowed and continues to bestow upon this Land of the Southern Cross: we thank him for the original custodians of this land; for the early settlers who braved the seas and left the mark of their presence and for the many migrants from many nations who contributed to Australia being one of the most multi ethnic countries in the world and continue to contribute to the wellbeing and beauty of Australia. We thank all those who in the past struggled to maintain and sustain the faith that we now enjoy, because of them, we find meaning in Australia Day as a day of celebration and thanksgiving; of acknowledging our past good and bad, and our present; of articulating our dreams and aspirations for the future; of acknowledging the contribution and participation of those who devote themselves to the betterment of our society and community; a day to celebrate our Australian Identity. For some reason I thought it was on the 30th - bit out of the loop! :) Well, maybe it is and they are just celebrating it today instead of Wednesday because of the long weekend holiday? In my area it is crazy with noise, banging, celebrating etc.

BarbTherese
Happy Chinese New Year too to all - especially to Asian people in our midst! Pretty quiet around here to date - 8.21pm on 26.1.14............most unusual! But then its not really dark yet, probably after dark the surrounds will explode into life with fireworks. Hope so!
