Marie-Therese
I am looking for some sheet music. I am considering having "Virgin Wholly Marvellous" as my bridal processional piece. I have a harpist who is going to be playing the ceremony, and though she is a very accomplished musician, this might be a piece she isn't familiar with. I wanted to get some sheet music to take with me when I meet with her to decide on all my musical selections. I have a recording of the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles, singing the piece (which is straight from Heaven itself), but I'd like to get some actual sheet music to give her along with playing her the audio exemplar. Anyone know where I can find some? My google-fu has only turned up some scanned-in images of very old music which isn't the best quality. Thanks everyone! Nihil Obstat
I searched all the promising-sounding music databases I have access to with my university ID, no dice. Are there any other names for the piece, or a composer name?
CatherineM
Maybe Stecker could get it. PM him.
ChristinaTherese
The piece appears to also be called "Blessed Virgin Mary" and "Virgo Praedicanda", and was written by Ephraim the Syrian. I'm guessing that the melody that the Sisters use is somehow German, since my CD from them with it says "Virgin Wholly Marvelous St Ephraem/ German". What I can find easily has a different melody. http://media.musicasacra.com/books/hymns/pbeh_virgin_wholly.pdf (MT, can you read music?) I'm looking for more.... We'll see what I find. ChristinaTherese
I'm turning up dry for finding it by the other names I listed or any recordings at all on YouTube (I was looking for alternate melodies), but here is some more sheet music, with yet another tune: http://www.hymnary.org/hymn/PH1915/83 I got it from a website which also has the first tune I gave you: http://www.hymnary.org/text/virgin_wholly_marvelous I'm coming up pretty dry though.... Just those two melodies. Maybe you could try to contact the Sisters? I would think they might try to help. They have a page (http://benedictinesofmary.org/content/sheet-music) talking about ordering sheet music for various songs on their CD's (sadly, not this one) and also say that if you have questions, feel free to contact them through the contact form here: http://benedictinesofmary.org/contact and select "Sheet Music" in the drop down menu. The Sisters themselves seem like the best avenue to me. Maybe they would have some idea of how to find the music even if they couldn't sell/give it to you. Vincent Vega
Nice work! Where did you find that? Found a PDF of the St. Pius X hymnal on the Corpus Christi Watershed website. I had a hunch that it could be in there.
