Luigi
http://nypost.com/2014/01/18/gov-cuomo-to-conservatives-leave-ny/ ### Gov. Cuomo has a message for conservative Republicans — you don’t belong in New York. Cuomo said Friday that members of the GOP with “extreme†views are creating an identity crisis for their party and represent a bigger worry than Democrats such as himself. “Their problem isn’t me and the Democrats; their problem is themselves,†the governor said on Albany’s The Capitol Pressroom radio show. “Who are they? Right to life, pro-assault weapons, anti-gay — if that’s who they are, they have no place in the state of New York because that’s not who New Yorkers are.†He added that moderate Republicans, such as those in the state Senate, “have a place in their state.†### What's that song about showing your true colors? Cuomo has shown his. So let's see... Back in the days of the Viet Nam War, some people had bumper stickers that said, "America - Love it or leave it." And that was considered undemocratic, backward, exclusive, close-minded, and all things bad. Now Andrew Cuomo is saying, "Liberal New York - Love it or leave it." And that's NOT considered undemocratic, backward, exclusive, close-minded, and all things bad? "They have no place in New York because that's not who New Yorkers are"? Really? Well... if they're in New York... and that's what they think... then isn't that who New Yorkers are? And isn't he the governor of all New Yorkers? To quote the late, great Ricky Ricardo, "Lucy, you got some 'splainin' to do." All I want for Christmas is some Democratic officials who understand democracy. Luigi
For further consideration of rising anti-Catholic sentiment in modern America, here's an article by Father Barron, using the Cuomo remarks plus a US News & World Report opinion piece as his starting point. http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/369107/why-anti-catholic-prejudice-ought-bother-everyone-rev-robert-barron We've survived this kind of thing in the past, and we'll survive it again, but it's disheartening nonetheless. God the Father
Now Andrew Cuomo is saying, "Liberal New York - Love it or leave it." And that's NOT considered undemocratic, backward, exclusive, close-minded, and all things bad? It's the same property that makes unilateral military action and invasions of privacy anathema when a Bush does it, and just a necessary part of life when an Obama does it.
