arfink
It's time to start a new project! Each month I'm going to ask people who their favorite saints are who also have a feast day during that month, and I'll draw a picture depicting that saint, including symbols representing their life, their patronage, or other cool things about them. From this drawing I will then create special engraved wooden holy cards, medals, and maybe even bigger art pieces. The person who can convince me that their saint idea is the coolest will be picked, and will also receive goodies at the end of the month when the engraving is done. (And by goodies I mean, engravings!) Sound like fun? Leave a comment on this post and nominate your favorite saint who has a feast day in the month of January. Make sure to say what day their feast is on. Edited January 15, 2014 by arfink

arfink
St Agnes (January 21st) I got the feeling that she's going to be an extremely popular pick.
Mary's Child
St John Bosco January 31st. He founded the Salesians and many schools for children. There have been saints who were trained by Salesians ie St Dominic Savio
OnlySunshine
I got the feeling that she's going to be an extremely popular pick. I hope so! She's a terrific saint. I always love the symbolism of the lamb and dove holding a ring. Edited January 15, 2014 by MaterMisericordiae

Luigi
Tommaso d'Aquino - Dominican, theologian, doctor of the church, the "dumb ox who will one day bellow," friend of saints (studied under Albert the Great), gave up family power & status to pursue his vocation (against his family's will), and one helluvan all-round good fellow. I vote for the big guy.

TheresaThoma
If anyone has any doubts about how awesome St Thomas Aquinas is go read his commentary on the Gospel of St John (it was a series of lectures given by him that were copied down and then he went back and edited them himself). So essentially you can "attend" a series of lectures given by St Thomas Aquinas, how cool is that? Also a good image would be of him leaning his head against a tabernacle. I was told that he would do this when he was struggling with a particularly hard theological concept and stay there until he got an answer/figured it out. A favorite quote is what he replied to Jesus after Jesus said that he (St Thomas) had written well of Him (Jesus) and asked what reward he would like. St Thomas just said, Nothing but You, Lord. ChristinaTherese
The Holy Family: Jan. 12 in the 1962 calendar this year, but since it's a Sunday I think it might just be the first Sunday of Ordinary Time. But apparently I'm too lazy to walk across the room to check it's late and I'd better get offline and go to bed. I think St. Colette has something on Jan. 13, but it isn't listed easily. Maybe it's a thing specific to Franciscans/Poor Clares/Poor Clare Colettines. I'm not sure....
