My favorite book is the Book Thief and I seemed to have made it some other peoples favorite book so let us discuss it!

The movie just came out also. I haven't seen it but I don't think I will like after watching the previews for it. Any thought one people who have seen it and read the book?

I am still reading the book--just at the part where he is making the book for her from the pages of Mein Kampf.  I am just struck by the narration; how death is holding it all together but you forget really, because you get so into the story.  Then, boom. death comes back in.  I am still deciding what to make of the colors.  Maybe I will know at the end?  Don't tell me!!!!  I hope to finish it tonight.  I did not know that a movie had been made.  It would be hard to make a movie and not mess it up, I think.

The first time I read it was in 6th grade (three years ago), and I could not figure out who the narrator was. I was reading it for a book club so I read it again it I suddenly knew who the narrator was. I will watch the movie but I will not like it.

Yeah, with this one I don't see how it could possibly be as good as the book.  I will try to finish it tonight and hopefully can talk more intelligently then LOL.

So, you are interested in the Benedictines?  I use a prayerbook called the Monastic Diurnal used by St. Michael's Abbey in England.  It was approved for them to use and it has the Psalms arranged according to the order that Benedict made.  One column is English; one is Latin.  You go through them all in a week!

I read that book for the first time around 6th or 7th grade, also. I remember some of the book and my impressions of it (That it was a good read and well written) but honestly I think I only remember about half of the plot. I guess it is time that I should read it again!

Yeah, please do.  I can't believe I had never heard of it.  I've almost got it finished.

I thought it was very fitting for the book but I wished he had written a sequel to it showing what life was like for L. after the war.

Yeah, that would have been good.  It just kind of jumped and you had to assume a whole lot.  Although maybe that might have been the point.
