Republicans And The Environment

Or you might call me a sad, reflexive hack, then complain about your workplace.  Since nobody is paying attention to this thread anymore except you and me, I'd rather you just enjoy your sunday without risk of being "grated" again.

Sorry but you throwing out that Robert Byrd was once a member of the Klan in response to my comment that the coal industry has done bad things in West Virginian politics is, in my opinion, a hackish thing to do.  I would say that because people like Sean Hannity used exactly that tactic constantly and it's a classic attempt at flame bait.  I'm happy to admit that Robert Byrd did a lot of bad things in his life and did many bad things at the behest of the coal industry.  But that has absolutely nothing to do with his ties to the Klan which he renounced decades previous.

So, to be honest I find it a little disingenuous on your part when you post an inflammatory, photoshopped image and then seem shocked and appalled when somebody points out that your tactics are hackish.

That being said, just because I am pointed doesn't mean that I am angry or dislike you personally.  I engage in hackery too.

Dude, you brought up corrupt WV politicians.   Who do you expect to come to mind?  Joe Manchin?  No, obviously Robert Byrd is the best known WV politician and will remain so for many years.  He held the same state-wide elected post for over 50 years

He was not simply a KKK member, but he led his local chapter.  It's a defining characteristic in my mind.  Showing a picture of him in a klan uniform is therefore not inflammatory, it's not slander, it's a true, instructive representation of the man and it's entirely relevant if you are discussing corrupt WV politics.

You didn't like it because you were having a bad day at work.

I brought up that coal industry's role in negatively influencing West Virginia elections.  He was a leader of a local chapter in the 1940s.  That has zero to do with the coal industry.  If you are trying to claim that you think showing a photo-shopped image of Robert Byrd towards the end of his life, six decades after he left the klan, in a conversation with zero relevance to his involvement in the Klan was intended to be a neutral act then I would say you are either exceptionally naive or are simply being disingenuous.  You were clearly trying to get a rise out of me.

I was not having a bad day at work.  You have a habit on this thread of severely twisting or reading into my words (like your weird claim that I said that we should move beyond labels).  I said that the industry (industry=/= individual office) is often saturated with spin (I work in politics) and that I therefore find it irksome when I come across that same sort of mindless spin in my personal life.  I find it particularly annoying from Socrates because he has a long and distinguished habit of attaching straw-men and being, in my opinion, intellectually dishonest.

Don't you have a March for Life after-party you should be hitting up today?

I accept your surrender.

It's incredibly relevant to show that a partisan Democratic hack racist hypocrite like Robert Byrd is knee deep in the "icky dirty coal trade" you were talking about.  Especially on a thread asking why "republicans are against the environment."

It's also a bit self-centered to consider yourself the object and audience of my posts.  I posted it to make a point to other readers.  Your response was... disproportionate... which is why I've been recommending you go out and have some fun, maybe go have some beers with the pro-life girls... you know you want to.

That would be relevant.  But, of course, you didn't show that.  You showed a photoshopped picture of the dead Byrd in the uniform of a terrorist group that he long ago denounced.  Which has zero to do with his extensive ties to the coal industry which he fostered to the detriment of his constituents.

Any-who, back to the point that began this tangent.  Being a libertarian or an egoist has nothing to do with thinking that it's totally not a problem that a major energy industry pumps huge amounts of c02 into the atmosphere.  Plenty of libertarians and egoists live in the real world where things like c02 can seriously negatively effect the climate.

Actually, I linked to a number of things in that post... and I found the photo funny and felt it help make the point.  If I didn't clearly enunciate it, it's because I was giving credit to the reader to connect the dots.

OK, well I'm one of those folks that doesn't consider CO2 to be a pollutant.   I'm not sure what aspect of reality makes CO2 a pollutant.   When CO2 is demonstrated to have a causal relationship with bad stuff, then I'd be willing to reconsider.  Thus far it hasn't happened.

You linked two things.  One was the part of the wikipedia page that covered Byrd's associations with the Klan and the other was a wikipedia list of West Virginia Senators.  I'm missing the point you were trying to make except for the fact that Byrd was in the Klan.

So apparently I was giving you too much credit?  Next time I'll be sure to spell it out very clearly.

You're getting tiresome.

You're both tiresome. Now go on my thread and tell me how cool I'll look in my kilt.
