PhuturePriest
As an International student (not a resident of Australia), you would actually have to pay very high tuition fees. The student visa does not qualify you for resident status. I work for the Dept of Education so I have a little knowledge of this subject. It depends what "very high tuition fees" amount to. "Very high" as in American standards, or "very high" in Australian standards?

Very high in anyone's standards - and not eligible for HECS-HELP either (govt student loans which aren't the same as Yanks have). But I will let you do your own online research. It's good practice for you.

However, I prefer speaking to people, particularly those knowledgeable in the field. That's why I made this thread even though I was researching at the same time. I don't think you really know what a Zoologist does - so a little more online research might be beneficial. You don't spend all day hugging cuddly lion cubs. Sorry to be the one to tell you. Part of this thread was for people knowledgeable about them to give some insight. If you aren't going to participate in the thread except to mock me, I really don't see a need for you to be involved at all. I have read posts by a lot of the males here teasing and calling each other names - all in a spirit of fun and brotherly teasing - not 'mocking' at all. In the alcohol drink thread you made a snide comment about me: I feel sorry for the many taste buds that have died on your crazed and psychopathic conquest. -- but I didn't throw a hissy fit about it - just teased you right back. But then I forget your age - so will lay off for awhile. You do have to realize that you come across as very 'know-it-all' sometimes so perhaps I was just bursting your bubble a little. No offence was meant, but really dude, lighten up a little. Next time, just send me a pm and tell me to go a bit easier - no need to make it all serious. I love it when people tease me and make jokes, and I how I can make them back, and nobody gets upset. However, these jokes are made by people I've gotten to know well and be friends with. You can't just swoop in and start making jokes in a serious manner and expect me and others to know you are in fact joking for fun, and not because you want to belittle the person. There is a difference between Hasan or Nihil Obstat breaking the news to me that I won't get to cuddle lions every day, and a person I have spoken to twice doing that. Can you appreciate why it's different?

HisChildForever
Well, unfortunately, the University of Florida is just a little too far away. :P Thanks! I live in Kansas, by the way. Though I am willing to go overseas to someplace like the UK or Australia since the low tuition justifies the trip. You're silly.
HisChildForever
In all seriousness, pursue your passion, just do it smartly. My academic adviser (undergrad) tried to dissuade me from forensic psychology because "there really aren't any jobs there." But I set out and went to grad school for it regardless. I graduated May 2013 and in August 2013 was hired full-time as a counselor in a correctional facility. My dream job. Loans suck but if you budget right you can do it. Between undergrad and grad I totaled 73k. And I commuted those 7 years. But guess what, despite my 37k income, I started repayments a few months ago and by the beginning of February I'll be close to 68k. I enrolled in an automatic debit program, and by doing so it cut my interest down a little. And I choose to pay double my minimum payment every month. I know of people with 100k in loans for just 4 years undergrad. I have no complaints.

Loans smell of elderberries but if you budget right you can do it. Between undergrad and grad I totaled 73k. And I commuted those 7 years. I definitely have to be smart and get all of the scholarships I can if I choose to go into zoology rather than seminary (Seminary in my diocese is free, so I'm not worried about the expenses). In this economy, you of course have to be reasonable, but you can't major in something that you hate; you might as well just work at Wal-Mart if you do that. Going to Wal-Mart straight out of high school means you are economically further ahead than most college students who have 50k of debt and can't find jobs. The great thing about zoology that I've noticed so far is it's a lot like other science majors, and you can basically get a job in anything scientific because of it, and you aren't held down to just one or two professions.
