CatherineM
My son's biological mother took him out of school the second week of first grade because they wanted him tested for learning disabilities. She home schooled him without a single requirement or oversight. He learned basic math and religion. Nothing else. He can barely read and has had no history or literature or science. I think it is a crime she was allowed to do this. I'm a supporter of homeschooling, but to not properly educate a child that you are responsible for isn't what homeschoolers should support. Yes, I agree. Although, the oversight thing can be a problem, depending on how far the state takes it. In Minnesota they have some oversight, like testing and registration and such, but it's not overbearing at all, so far as I can see. It gives the state a little clout too if a parent is depriving their kids.
