Lilllabettt
Before the raeg takes over, consider that there may be a vocabulary issue. We may say that "authentic" feminism is not described by whats-his-face in these videos. But feminism has many incarnations; now it is a diverse movement. But there was a time when the establishment could be described this way, as it existed in the academy and elsewhere. I happen to be acquainted with the families involved in this website; they lead very insulated lives and they are suspicious of "baptized" feminism. I notice that they have backed off the "no girls in college thing" and now put it as "not all girls" should go to college. Which is true, although equally true for boys. Perhaps some improvement here. One can hope.
CatholicsAreKewl
U can't say ur a crazy feminist if u still believe in marriage.
Mary+Immaculate<3
Ugh. I am just appalled because these videos fail to address the fact that if a woman doesn't have the skills necessary for a supporting job then what would become of her husband and children if he had a disaster. We are called to be in the world but not of the world. That might mean you go to university, but that doesn't mean you're going to go to a party school. That may mean a woman will have a job, that doesn't mean she is living contrary to her gender's role. There's nothing wrong with being a homemaker, but it's not sinful to work if it is needed. Ash Wednesday
He's oversimplifying things for a lot of people whose lives are in pretty complicated situations. Women who are unable to marry, haven't found a suitable mate and have to fend for themselves. Women who have children to care for, but their husband ends up disabled and unable to work, or get laid off. How about women who are widowers or divorced? (Yeah, I said it. Or would he not want to acknowledge that it happens?) Women whose husbands say "honey, I am struggling to make ends meet on my own, you're going to have to get a job"? No, college isn't for everybody. But it's not like women haven't ventured into vocational training and the workforce for no good reason, and it isn't always out of a so called "feminist" mentality. I missed the part where college was supposed to prepare women for wife and motherhood. Imagine having a 4 year degree with a "B.A. in Wife and Motherhood" that could prepare you for that! (Sorry for any ladies that have to clean off their screen from laughing at the concept.) I don't really find him offensive, a harmonious way of living I think does favor traditional family structures, but unfortunately our world is complex and not all that hospitable for that to flourish like it used to. He does strike me as being very insulated (so I wasn't surprised to see Lilllabettt point that out...my first thought was "bubble" but insulated works, too.) But here is my BIGGEST question: What is it with some big talking Catholics and their apparent visual obsession with medieval knights and armor? Mary+Immaculate<3
But here is my BIGGEST question: What is it with some big talking Catholics and their apparent visual obsession with medieval knights and armor? Because they like the idea of Medieval chivalry.
arfink
Because they like the idea of Medieval chivalry. Except it was hardly as romantic as people say. It tended to actually be pretty brutal. I know this cartoon oversimplifies it, but it also is funny and worth reading even if you disagree with the above statement. http://www.harkavagrant.com/index.php?id=
PhuturePriest
I don't think it's knights in particular, it's the ideal of knights in chivalry that they strive for. The codes of chivalry are drenched in theology and respect. Knights didn't always abide by them, but the point remains that the code of chivalry is still honorable. Mary+Immaculate<3
A lot of distorted and ugly things have been done in the name of God. Usually it is caused from the straying from ideals, or manipulating them.
