ilovechrist
ever had a friend that won't listen to you when it comes to a particular topic? my friend just got offline after a big debate with me.. he logged off when i nailed him in a corner about our topic-music. he's under the influence of some of his band members, and other people from school... let's just say it's not a good influence. just cuz bands are on MTV he thinks they're awesome, and anything that has a good strong moral to it he ... dislikes it (i.e. Creed, who just broke up). ever had any friends that do that to you? he refuses to listen to me on WHY you have to pay close attention to the band, their lyrics, their lifestyles, etc... crusader1234
well i dont think we shuold pin people into corners for what they believe... haha but i do sort of agree with you. normally id say let him listen to what he wants, but frankly the music on mtv these days is carp and the people are idiots, and if he doesnt like things becuase of 'values' then hes clearly just being a follower. Thy Geekdom Come
I see a change coming in America. I see moral values rising over the horizon. I'm just going to be ashamed to tell my children that I was a child of the 80's and 90's.

Iacobus
My firend listens to the rap shtuff. Not PM style rap but the popular things. I am like "Andrew what is so cool about someone talking with a beat with a pre K vocab and a few swear words about how he likes to abuse woman and commit crimes?" I just don't get it. Esp when your chourus is the F word over and over again. What is "neato" about that? It just is dumb and crude. Listen to the songs and REALLY listen. One of the shows I like on NPR is World Café and lots of there songs can be read or listen to as a Christian theme. Even by the groups I wouldn't buy becuase of things they support. But with the REAL popular stuff among teens and on MTV there is none of that.
Aloysius
music can be scary stuff. Fr. John Coropi talked about how he's seen them do black masses over lyrics. even without that, though, the message should make anyone with a shread of decency flee it's ugliness even if they like the beat or wahtever
Iacobus
I don't need to hear the lyrics to flee, the music is bad enough, LOL! What is the Arival song? I don't think I know it or have heard it. I am kinda anti 97ZOK the pop station here. I don't like the "bust a cap gangsta" rap thing they play non stop.

[/quote] the Avril song.. i'll find the name, i heard it this morning. a lot of these guys like the music just cuz it "sounds cool". they like to pay attention to how many notes the lead guitarist can hit, and if he can hit a ton, then he's awesome, and the group's awesome ---shows how little they're thinking. i hate that gangsta song as well.. ick
VeraMaria
Yeah, it's on the radio all the time (the avril song) it's called "did you think". In TIME they interviewed her and asked why she wrote a song about abstinence and she said she wrote it when she was 17 and HS was messed up, but her view has changed, she wouldnt have written something like that now. VeraMaria
never mind, it's called "Don't tell me" You held my hand and walked me home I don't know why you gave me that kiss It was something like this It made me go oh-oh You wiped my tears Got rid of all my fears Why did you have to go? Guess it wasn't enough To take up some of my love Guys are so hard to trust Did I not tell you That I'm not like that girl The one who gives it all away, yeah Did you think that I was gonna Give it up to you, this time? Did you think that it was something I was gonna do, and cry? Don't try to tell me what to do Don't try to tell me what to say You're better off that way Don't think that your charm And the fact that your arm Is now around my neck, Will get you in my pants I'll have to kick your ass And make you never forget Im gonna ask you to stop Thought I liked you a lot, But I'm really upset (I'm really upset) Get out of my head Get off of my bed Yeah that's what I said Did I not tell you That im not like that girl The one who throws it all away Did you think that I was gonna Give it up to you, this time? Did you think that it was something I was gonna do, and cry? Don't try to tell me what to do Don't try to tell me what to say You're better off that way This guilt trip that you put me on Won't mess me up, I've done no wrong Any thoughts of you and me have gone away Did you think that I was gonna Give it up to you, this time? Did you think that it was something I was gonna do, and cry? Don't try to tell me what to do Don't try to tell me what to say You're better off that way (Better off that way) I'm better off alone anyway
