CrossCuT
We already have other TV show threads so I wanted to add this one as well! Does anyone watch? Apparently Downton Abbey is now named the most watched drama on public television since forever.
AnneLine
I LOVE it... but can't take time to write more now.... but very open to discussing it! We need to be careful about spoilers, however, because the UK members have seen all... and I gather the Australian members won't get Season 4 for a few more months! We could discuss thru season 3 with no problems.... and there are always PMs...... :)
CrossCuT
I agree! Spoiler tags will have to be utilizes!
EmilyAnn
I *love* Downton! I only started watching in series 4 though - my mum is a fan and insisted on watching. She has earlier seasons on DVD though so that might be what I do tomorrow. :P I'll have to learn how to do the spoiler tags...

AnneLine
[s.poiler] blah blah blah [/s.poiler] THIS is how to do a spoiler? I've never known! Let's see.... [s.poiler]starting with season 4 would really make one get confused.....[/s.poiler]
AnneLine
Nope, that obviously isn't the right route... but it is the right comment, Emily --- you MUST watch the videos in order or you will really regret it....
AnneLine
I do NOT know how to do spoilers (and would like to know) but can I suggest, Crosscut, it might be nice to just give people a chance to get say... .caught up on Season 1 for this week... and seasons 2 and 3 the following week? We certainly could discuss the opening episode and its content this week.... ? Because it would be TOO easy for someone to forget to put spoilers around some content. I found out a significant event ahead of time by accident... and it really made the episodes kind of odd for me in places..... because I knew what was coming.... But it is your thread, so you make the decisions. If anyone has Amazon Prime you get free access to all the previous episodes, btw... Seasons 1-3..... ALSO if you want to know a bit more about the time period, check out Youtube for 'Edwardian Farm' (and 'Victorian Farm' for that matter) -- will give you some EXCELLENT background for this series! CatherineM
Never watched it, but everything Maggie Smith makes is worth watching.
AnneLine
Catherine, I think you would love it.... it reminds me a bit of Gone with the Wind in the sense of over-the-top melodrama and the 'period' being perfectly portrayed... but there are a lot of thinking person's subplots and a LOT of social commentary that I think will be interesting to discuss with phellow phatmassers! We dont have to discuss season 4 yet of course because its just starting in the US now. But im excited to talk to people about it! :)
AnneLine
Yup... I'm just saying that there are 6 or 7 episodes to each season... and some people haven't seen any of 'em yet. We need to give 'em a chance to get caught up!!!! But I would think we can start talking about Season 1 Episode 1 say... by this weekend? And discuss characters in that episode pretty easily without giving away any secrets. I loved the way they handled the opening scenes.... such a well-done intro to the historical moment, to the characters, to the roles.... just impeccably plotted. DiscerningCatholic
I've been reading "Downton Abbey" as "Downtown Abbey" since I first heard about it. Now I know better. :proud: In other news, I have a great idea for a Catholic TV series...
