Ancilla Domini
Come April, I'll have played the violin for 13 years. How many other musicians are there on Phatmass? St. Cecilia, pray for us! – Cilla
PhuturePriest
I've been playing guitar since I was twelve, and I've been taking vocal lessons for over a year now. Here's a video of me last year playing guitar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHFIFVsceYo

I'll respond when I do. I take vocal lessons, too. What type of music do you sing? I'm into opera/operatta. Have you ever heard of Gilbert and Sullivan? Clare Brigid
I watched two minutes; I might watch the rest later. Very, very good! I thought the whole thing might be a Led Zep medley, but then you segued artfully into Knocking on Heaven's Door, which is better to hear than Black Dog on a Catholic forum. Keep up the good work. Practice, practice, practice. Learn those chords, my child.

I have videos of me singing, but they're all from a year ago, and I would pay you to not watch them. :P I originally just purely sang classical and Broadway, but over time my vocal teacher has had me branch out into pop, which has made my voice sound a lot better. Originally, I was trying way too hard to be operatic, which made it sound fake and bad. Now I just sing the way I'm naturally inclined to, and it sounds loads better and I can sing with a lot more diversity. I haven't heard of Gilbert and Sullivan. I sing a ton of Josh Groban, though! I used to play a minimum of an hour a day no matter what, so I reached a level of proficiency that's hard to get back without practicing as hard. :P
ChristinaTherese
I play viola and(including the time I was studying violin) have been doing so for about 10.5 years now. I've been in choir for a bit longer, and have sung most of my life anyway. I used to play piano, but I kept dropping it and picking it up again, and while I wouldn't put it past myself to start playing again I haven't played more than one piece that I have memorized in years. Ancilla Domini
I play exclusively classical (as in the genre, rather than the era, if you know what I mean) on the violin. I'm performing the 1st movement of Bruch's 1st Violin Concerto on February 1st. Time to start looking forward to the stage-fright.

Maybe I'll have to use you as an excuse to listen to that concerto if I have a recording.... ETA: On the viola it's pretty exclusively classical, that is. Singing, it's both classical music and my teacher this last summer said that Danielle Rose's stuff fit me quite well. (I only did a little of it.) PhuturePriest
This is me a few months ago trying out a song I never really practiced in a room I was unused to. :P The room was carpeted, so I wasn't sure how much that would affect the camera being able to hear me, plus it's an enclosed basement, added with the fact the camera has a very sensitive built-in microphone, so be warned it might be loud. I strained the first high note, but I got it right afterwards. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cflRygVxkCk&feature=youtu.be

PhuturePriest
The fact that you have a shirt that says "Honor your Inner Monk" just made my day. :winner: I had just gotten back from NCYC. That's the shirt I bought there, with the NCYC hoodie my youth group wore.
