CatherineM
We have social workers who are involved. He has a counsellor in a fetal alcohol program through catholic social services. He has a psychiatric nusrse at the rehab hospital's adult fetal alcohol clinic. We have two that support us through the program of persons with developmental disabilities. They have been really helpful in dealing with the other boy we have. We've had trouble finding things to cook that he can taste. His mom burned his taste buds out when he was little by washing his mouth out with solvents. I'm normally unflappable. When I do lose it, I blow up but get over it quickly. I vented here because I never want to do it in front of the boys. This month has been one revaluation after another. It seems like all his various testing results came at once. Probably because everyone wants to clear their desks before the holiday break. I'm the only one who tells him that his mom did the best she could, and to get mad at the disease, not at her. His test results were so bad and so unexpected that it shocked his psychiatrist who is the former head of the department of psychiatry at the Univ. of Alberta, and the social worker at Catholic Charities who worked with the family for 20 years, a 70 year old nun. These two have seen everything in their 50 year careers, but this stuff blew him away. I'm looking at how hard his life is going to be, and it makes me cry. cmaD2006
Just double checked ... this was a cross post that occurred (CatherineM was posting as I was closing the thread). Given that she originally opened the thread, I think it is fitting that she got the last word. As I said -- let's pray for all involved.
