Hello all!

So I am trying to find something to get my spiritual director for Christmas... I was wondering if anyone had any gift ideas or suggestions. He has literally everything, so I'm trying not to duplicate anything that he already has.

Any ideas??

Thanks and God bless!!

Art. Things for the kitchen. Maybe a cook book.

As a former seminarian, I can tell you right now, there are only so many devotional things you can get before you start having to throw them out, or re-gift them to anyone and everyone.

The priest at my Parish loves to travel, I would get him postcards or flags, both very small can be stored just about anywhere!

Think small and practical, yet unique!

Maybe a little christmas ornament with the Holy Family on it,

or socks! haha just kidding

:hehe2:

Get him a flight and place to stay at a traditional Mass workshop. :proud:

That's actually an awesome idea!  :D He would love it, too!

I'm serious on kitchen stuff, or things for food prep etc. I know the kinds of guys who get made priests, they usually haven't got a clue in the kitchen. The most kindly received gift I ever gave a priest was a cookbook entitled "A Man, A Can, And A Plan," which he loved because it was extremely simple.

If someday I am fabulously rich, I plan on doing this regularly. :P

If he's in an order give him a voucher to take him out on a night of his choosing as money and monetary items must be sent to the community, or fill his tank with gas.

If he's diocean and then I'd suggest things like food, or reparing his alb or new socks or winter gear.  Being men, most priests don't necessarly pay attention to this.

Being a man, I can verify this.

Being a man, I can verify this.

I find that men tend to wear things until they fall apart, weither it is prudent or not.  My father, fiancee, brothers, and male friends are this way.  I have a cousin who is not and my fiancee's brother in law "manscapes" so he's a bit more aware but they all can do things that have me totally scratching my head.  A big one is wallets.  One friend of mine has a wallet that is heald together by staples and tape but won't get a new one beucase "it works".  My friend's (little brother who's my age) has socks that look like swiss cheese.  My brothers wear undies until they are threadbare.  Other unspecified men in my life wear shoes until they are so deformed and a bit smelly you need a hasmat lisence to dispose of them.  I know priests who are much the same, compounded when they live together and reinforce this behavior.  Except for the priest this is never a monetary concern (as in too poor to do so) but a practical one...shopping is a nusance that should be avoided until a clothing catastrophy.  Unfortunatly, even after said event they don't learn.

*sigh*

This reminds me of the thread about sterotypes about men.  I do wish they were a little less sterotypical about such matters.

I was listening to Splendid Table a few days ago, and one of the guests on there suggested taking some wooden spoons of different sizes and such and painting the handle with acrylic paint (you could do his favorite colors, or liturgical colors!). It'd be something simple and relatively inexpensive, and would go great with a few more cooking/kitchen things if you go with Arfink's idea. Like a little gift basket or something. :)
