Finals

Well, I'm back. I will probably be up for a bit, because I'm not ready for tomorrow's final yet. Hopefully in an hour or two.... Thanks for the encouragement, AnneLine! It helps a lot. My last final is on Thursday, and it starts at 7:30 AM. I did convince a friend to drive me, though! If I took the bus I would have to leave the house at 5AM.

As for encouragement, just being here to cheer me on helps, and I would appreciate prayers. I would especially ask for prayers that I can be calm right before and during the final, because as long as I am not nervous I am usually good at taking tests.

I got some good news today! I checked my grades (I thought it was interesting that someone mentioned D2L recently, but I'm not positive that was in this thread. My college uses that too.) and I found out that I got 100% on my term paper! HOORAY!

Ugh. I'm starting to cool down and fall asleep. I'm not ready for that yet!

It doesn't help that my toes are freezing! Brrr. Sometimes I just love MN.

Well, I found out that Cocoa helps with the cold and sleepy for a bit, but at some point you just have to sleep. I'm done studying now though, so I am going to do that. Pray for me that I do well! The test starts at 9:40 tomorrow.

Chryso, and all (for future!)

A couple of things I found helpful over the years...... a few years ago, the California Highway Patrol passed on some info about what to do if you HAVE to drive when you haven't had a lot of sleep (and so, similar situation to those of us who have to drive through long papers and exams and similar things....)

They suggested that, IF you are one of the people who do well with Caffeine (not everyone is....) you can try taking a strong cup of coffee BEFORE a nap and IMMEDIATELY go to sleep (before it hits); when you wake up, you will be WIDE awake.  I can testify this works REALLY well!   However... the 'awake state' will NOT last forever, and does NOT take the place of regular sleep!   But it can get you alert for awhile.

The second thing -- and this is BRILLIANT!!!!!  is using the 'sleepytime calculator'.   There is some science behind this -- it takes advantage of the natural sleep and dream cycles our brains use.  So... if you nap for 1.5 hour increments... you wake up refreshed and alert!   So literally, you will do better with a 1.5 hour nap than a 2 hour nap!  Because you will have had a full sleep cycle!    So... if you need to pull an 'all nighter' or spend a few hours over the night at work(hopefully not often!) add in one or two 1.5 hour naps (or split your sleep with 2 3 hour periods) and you really WILL do better!

SOMEBODY read that last paragraph and came up with the 'sleepytime' calculator..... which is a fantastic thing to have available.  You can use it to calculate best time to go to sleep... or best time to plan to wake up.   It is BRILLIANT... and it works!!!!

Can use it on internet....

and you can download it as an app!

Here's a review from NY Times....

A good night's sleep consists of 5-6 complete sleep cycles.

Thanks for the hints! I had actually heard this advice before, and have taken advantage of both tactics. I had heard the one referred to as a caffeine nap, and I think I mentioned that in an earlier post. My first final went well, so I am now studying for tomorrow's. Computer Science! Woot! At least I really enjoyed this class.

Any suggestions for what I can do about just an edge of sleepiness? Its not really sleepy, just like my mental awareness is a little less sharp than it usually is. (ok, it might be sleep related, I was up late, and up early). I also think it might be slightly allergy related because I am reacting to our Christmas tree. Any tips?

Mine math grade went up 2 points from a test we took last week! Now I only have to wait and see what I got on my final! Physical Science and  Introduction into Catholicism is tomorrow. I am getting the three hardest finals out of the way first at least...

Probably too late for this time, Chryso, but you can do a mini version of the 'caffeine nap' - about 1/4 cup of coffee and 15 mins of sleep... but it is less predictable.... sometimes you can get up groggy... otherwise it works pretty well... got me thu yesterday afternoon, in fact.... ;)

The final I took today seemed to go fine. My hardest exam is tomorrow. Physics! I might be up rather late to study for this one! :spike:

I'm so lonely! Gummy Bears can come keep me company! Nom Nom... :bounce:

I think long naps right after a final are quite therapeutic! I took one and it seems to have done some great things for me! Good music helps, too!

Wow, nobody has posted anything since before midnight in the Lame Board! That seems kind of unusual...

I'm still up! I have two more sections to cover, and then I should be ready.  I'm glad this final doesn't start until almost noon. God really works in marvelous ways! My worst final, that I am staying up latest for, and it doesn't start until noon! :)

Nothing keeps me up and going like great music. I found this and I love it:
