Not The Philosopher
I usually just go with Orville Redenbacher, though I don't consider myself to be a popcorn connoisseur...
brandelynmarie
Thanks NTP, but any particular type? Movie Theatre? Light?
Not The Philosopher
The plain, smartpop kind. I'll usually just provide my own seasoning.

CrossCuT
I also like the SmartPop. I try not to get the super buttery stuff.

blazeingstar
Can you get a air popper? Cost wise it almost makes up for it within the first few purchases. A 2lb bag of kernals is $1.50 at my grocer whereas a box is often $4-5 for six packs. Bed, Bath and Beyond had a popper for $12 the other day. My fiancee pops his in the microwave using a brown paper bag. Since the kernals are usually fresher, if I have to eat microwave popcorn (I usually avoid it) thats my first choice. My parents swear by orville.

Winchester
Like asking "Who was the best Nazi". Microwave popcorn is disgusting. Regular popcorn isn't that great, either.

AnneLine
Winchester, we agree on this one... except I'm happy to give my share to the popcorn lovers. Let's you and me go find something better in the kitchen... ice cream? pizza? what you say... wanna join me? brandelynmarie
Oh, Winnie  I enjoy asking unanswerable questions :p After much scientific experimenting & assessing the available data, I've opted for Orville Redenbacher's Simple Butter & Sea Salt as my go-to  with my own extra melted butter. :) oh yes, & with my own cheese when available. (This particular microwaveable popcorn seems minimal on the fake yellow stuff, lol ) Edited December 7, 2013 by brandelynmarie
AnneLine
Well... even POPCORN is made edible with butter (lots) and a bit of salt.  :bananacorn: :buddies:
