Treasure Island is by far one of the worst books of all time, and I absolutely refuse to read it or be around people that are disillusioned enough to want to read it.

I disagree - Robinson Crusoe is far worse.

I have read almost exactly half of those books listed!

A Wrinkle in Time (Madeleine L'Engle) [ or ] A Wind in the Door (Madeleine L'Engle)  [I have not read either, but I think the second can stand alone??]

House of Gold (Bud Macfarlane)

Banner in the Sky (James Ullman)

All of these look great!

HA, They all look good except I cannot read Beautiful Joe ever again.  I cried for weeks when I was a kid when I read that book.

So, whatever is picked will be fine with me.

I'll vote, although my participation will be dependent on the stock in my local library/what my sister has left at home/it not being Jane Eyre (I really hate Jane Eyre).

My votes are:

Holes (Sachar)

The Hunger Games (Collins)

and one not on the list:

She Is Not Invisible (Sedgwick)

REMINDER!!!!   Today is the LAST DAY to vote in the 1st round of books for the February Book.

So far it appears we may have a first place winner, but there could be a tie if there are more votes.

If there are more votes, and we do get a tie, we'll have a tie-breaking vote between the semi-finalists... and if there STILL is a tie after that, IceNine will select the 1st book.

Check back tomorrow to see what happens!   :bible:

I want to read Nietzsche and more comedy, but I don't recognize anything there fitting into either category.

The Hunger Games is on my list.

Darn. I meant to switch The Giver to #1 before I posted, but it was already past 12am, so does my vote even count?

Thanks for the votes.... you have till midnight pacific time to vote or change your votes.... 1.5 more hour!

If there is a clear winner, we'll see it... if not we'll do a run-off.... and after that, we'll let IceNine make the final choice.

Have a good rest of the voting time!
