NotreDame
Russia is interesting right now, but it's tough to tell whether their pro-life, pro-family push is motivated by respect for God and the Natural Law or if it's just the same ole concern about dwindling population. If you go back through history you'll see that the bolsheviks were the first in the world to make abortion-on-demand legal. Given the bleak life in these countries, the result was enormous numbers of abortions and concerns over population growth. This led russia and its satellites to later ban abortion for long periods and even regulate contraception. Russia faces many of the same challenges today as the over half-century under marxist rule left a God-less, demoralized populace in a hopeless malaise. No. It's not tough to tell at all. In fact, it's really easy. The current regime in power in Russia is deeply corrupt and profoundly cynical. If anyone here is naive enough to believe otherwise then I would love to give you my contact information so I can sell you a truly first rate bridge in Brooklyn. arfink
Yeah, not gonna lie, I also see Russia as one seriously messed up place right now. And not just in individual life, Putin and his government are extremely corrupt. Putin makes Obama look like a pansy yes, but he also makes Obama look like a pleasant fellow by comparison. Putin has no problem with lies, theft, bribery, death threats, and probably much worse. Some of it's even been caught on camera, on public media, and nobody will touch him. Some people claim Putin's government supports traditional values, but even if you claim that's true, that's never the real reason. Homosexuality is illegal not because of any moral reason, but because there are mobs who go around lynching people who look gay and the cops don't want to have to stop it, so the law doesn't get changed. Abortion is illegal because nobody wants to be on the hook to pay for it, or much of anything else, for that matter.
