LinaSt.Cecilia2772
Okay, recently I moved from Texas to Maryland for college and it has been a big change weather wise for me. I knew this day was going to come soon, and obviously winter in Texas is WAY different than winter in Maryland, where there is actual snow and actual cold weather. I need advice on clothing for winter weather. Websites, stores, sweater, pantaloons, shoes, boots, coats, jackets, and any other recommendations that will be beneficial to my winter adjustment would be great. Need to go the reasonably priced route too, I am a student after all and money isn't exactly plentiful. Thanks! GeorgiiMichael
You're at Mount, right? Hit up the outlets in Gettysburg. No tax, plus regular deals because they're outlets. I'm a big fan of Eddie Bauer, but they have an Old Navy, Gap, and several other places as well. Know that to get a good winter coat, you're looking at spending about $100 (at least). That said, it should last you for years to come. Especially if you can pick up a nice wool pea coat (Try Wilson's Leather for that).
Basilisa Marie
Go to the Outlets. Coming from Washington State, I couldn't even FIND a normal east coast winter coat at regular stores, so I ended up layering sweaters and hoodies and my coat and scarves. You won't be alone if you end up having to do that. :) Don't get fuzzy boots, get real shoes that are waterproof. Thickish socks. Good gloves and thick scarves. A hat if you like them. But yeah, layers are your friend, even when you get a good coat. I loved the Mount when it snowed and they plowed the sidewalks and the drifts would be so high, especially walking back from the cafe at night... freaking magical, I tell ya. :)

Even though I don't know how I feel yet about the snow, I can't wait until it does so I can see how pretty it will all be. =)
TheresaThoma
Layers are key! Also good shoes and a good pair of snow boots. A scarf is also nice, I have one I knitted for myself and it is wonderful. I especially love using it to cover my nose because my own body heat warms up the air and makes it easier to breathe. Outlets are good and so are thrift shops. I recently picked up a nice long wool coat for 10 dollars at my local Goodwill.

ChristinaTherese
Long underwear (wool/silk/something else like that leggings/under shirts) is great. I'd generally look for it at REI, but it might be elsewhere too (maybe under armor makes that? I don't know, but you can probably find it at sports/outdoor type of stores). If you want to play in the snow, get something waterproof for your legs. Fleece pants and rain pants, or snow pants, or something along those lines that is both warm and waterproof. Hats/scarves are good. So are warm, waterproof gloves. And of course a good winter coat, or layers like long underwear+fleece+rain coat.
Gabriela
These: http://www.amazon.com/Terramar-HOTTOTTIES-Fleece-Performance-Leggings/dp/B005MEFI4M I just moved from Virginia to Indiana and I ride a scooter (even in the winter, in the wind and rain, across a bridge...). I'm not sure how I ever lived without these. They're so comfortable I now wear them to bed just because I don't want to take them off. Google "Terramar Hottotties" for the best price, but I think it's at Amazon. Also check Sierra Trading Post and Camp Mor, though. Those are cheap places to get good outdoor and winter gear. Ed Normile
You must be from the Valley down southern Texas if you are not used to snow. The rest of the state is frigid and snowbound most the winter. Last winter in San Antonio, actually New Braunsfells it was a winter wonderland while Florida was nice and sunny. ed

I don't recall there being a Winter wonderland last year, we hardly get any snow. The only parts that get any snow at all are in the panhandle or north Texas. That's pretty much it. I've lived in Texas my whole life until I moved for college.
