Nihil Obstat
I hate that saying. My loyalty belongs to the Church. My country can pick through whatever is left over. I should be clear though. My country as a country full of natural beauty and neighbours and rich history is great. The government and everything associated with it is not. Lilllabettt
yeah ... remember that patriotism is a virtue and a moral obligation. If anyone considers themselves unpatriotic that is a fault which will either get fixed on earth or be burnt away in purgatory. its bad form to run down dead people, at least it is when people who knew and loved them are still around, especially on the anniversary of them kicking it. So all I'll say is God bless Jack Kennedy.
Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
amazing. God is truely Good, even to the united states of america, though at times the tornados seem to keep coming he is the Great rescuer. Love you guys.
Catherine Therese
patriotism is a virtue and a moral obligation. Can you expand on this a little? I've never heard it put that way before and so I'm interested to hear an explanation and perhaps any theological references you can point me to.Don't get me wrong. I love my country, I truly do. I'm so grateful to live here, and substantial time living in a foreign country has only heightened this gratitude.(My love of country is NOT to be confused with loving the political landscape of my country; we are currently experiencing some reprieve under the lesser of the available evils but neither major party is something behind which I can throw my full support, as alignment with either party would require a compromise on various non-negotiable matters of faith.)But yes - I love my country; before my days in religious life I served in my country's military. But I've just never heard this idea pitched in exactly this way before. I can think of some Augustinian allusions to good citizenship based on the Gospel teaching of "render unto Caesar…" but yeh. Patriotism as virtue and moral obligation? It's stronger language than I've previously encountered and I'd love to read more about it.)

NotreDame
Bad man. Bad leader. I used to think he was a decent leader until I read these two books: Decision for Disaster: Betrayal at the Bay of Pigs by Grayston L. LynchLink: http://amzn.com/1574882376 Triumph Forsaken: The Vietnam War, 1954-1965 (v. 1) by Mark MoyarLink: http://amzn.com/0521869110 And later when I read the stories about the intern (similar to the one you linked to), I was pretty sure I couldn't call him a decent man either. NotreDame
Wasn't that Tony Abbott guy even in a seminary for a couple of years? I heard, even after his election, he went back to his hometown to work on the volunteer firemen crew he was a part of.
Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
I don't keep up with the news Notredame, all i know is he is a practicing holy roman catholic, and his daughters are also as far as i'm aware and are of age and still believers though i hear a bit off key with there holy mass attendance. That's all i know. I think it is great for australia and the whole world, i hope he gets two terms, and also if his daughters are practicing Christians and of age than that makes him an actual elder, cool as. And i hope his daughters are given the grace for more regular holy mass attendance, particularly Sundays and other holy days of obligation, even the once a week afternoon mass too. I really should find out more about Tony Abbott, what you have said interests me, i would like to find out more about him.

Did they change the Sacred Square Mileage to which we must devote ourselves, or is it still an idiotically nebulous idea that just serves to empower monsters to commit mass murder in the name of "The Fatherland"?
