Pope Calls Sick traditionalist Catholic who criticized him

“I was astonished, amazed, above all moved: for me, as a Catholic, that which I was experiencing was one of the most beautiful experiences in my life. But I felt the duty to remind the Pope that I, together with Gnocchi, had expressed specific criticisms regarding his work, while I renewed my total fidelity [to him] as a son of the Church. The Pope almost did not let me finish the sentence, saying that he had understood that those criticisms had been made with love, and how important it had been for him to receive them.” [These words] “comforted me greatly.”

I do not consider myself a traditionalist and I don't know who this Gnocchi person is. But Papa has said and done some things that hurt my feelings; made me feel ignored -- or worse --- disapproved of. I am so glad this particular story got out, because it makes all my heartache disappear in a blink. Papa does think about the worries of "my kind" and he does love us. God bless leaky pipes!

This is great - the kind of news I really needed to hear. It seems that Pope Francis is ok with people not necessarily agreeing with him on every little thing. We could learn from his example. :)

He also wrote a note to another traditionalist favorite:

You have made this love manifest in many ways, including correcting a mistake or imprecision on my part - and for that I thank you from the heart -, but above all it is manifest in all your purity in the studies made on the Second Vatican Council. I once told you, dear Abp. Marchetto, and I wish to repeat it today, that I consider you to be the best interpreter [ermeneuta] of the Second Vatican Council.
