Squares And Circles?

May the peace of christ be with you all.

So i was sitting outside and the Lord seeded into my heart and mind how wonderful a circle is, the roundness, while thinking about the earth. So get this than this thought popped into my head " Is there anything square in nature or are these only created by man."   :woot:  Blew me away. Can anyone think of anything in nature that is naturally square?

Jesus iz LORD.

honeycombs aren't naturally square, but they are naturally designed with straight sides in hexagons:

Snowflakes have crystalline shapes as well...

You've picked up on something I've also noticed. Roundness is essential for all the things that spin, and the whole universe spins - the moon, the planets, the sun all spin on their own axis, and most of them orbit/spin around a central point (the moon around the earth, the earth around the sun).

A great deal of human progress has been made since we figured out how to spin fiber into thread, spin wheels around axles, use a motor to spin a transmission which then spins the wheels on the spinning axles, spin dynamos to make energy, and on and on.

Do you suppose God spins? Or that God is round? Or is God the central point around which all else spins?

Awe-somE brothers and sisters, but i found out off a friend that i asked after thinking about all this and posting it that there is one thing on planet earth that is most definately square. It is a type of mineral/rock semi precious gem and it looks like polished lead supposedly and it grows in an exact square, my friend doesn't know the scientific name of the thing but funny enough the street name of the rock is 'devils dice.' That is the only thing on earth he can think of that is exactly square. Putting the street name aside of 'devils dice' and i wish i had it's proper name but perhaps there is power in squares because it is so rare and that is why humans create so many things that are square or roughly square. Obviously not rare anymore, i was thinking of decking my next flat out with lots of round and curvy stuff instead of square stuff in the name of ordinary and common, and leave the 'devils dice' deep underground, lol. Maybe circles are actually more powerful if circles point to origin and God.

Hi, Tab,

I wouldn't necessarily get too hung up on shape or content -- just look for the beauty in God's creation, and let all of it remind you of His care and love for every part of our world.

Here are some pictures from a gem and mineral show -- how wondrous our God is!!!!

Oh, and the proper name (and a picture) of your friend's 'devil's dice' is  goethite  Apparently it is a mineral that can take on many different shapes, including the square stones... and a lot of others.

Here is a good article about the mineral and some pictures (one is pasted below) (and absolutely nothing that could be problem for you to look at, Tab):

Dice used to advance a player's piece in a board game are little cubes with dots drawn on each of six sides. The distinctive shape often well fits a form of stone, once pure pyrite, that weathers on its outside into a new, brownish mineral called goethite. Shatter one of the stones, and inside the golden hue peculiar to pyrite brightly shines through. In some instances, the outer surfaces appear more of a gunmetal gray, as in this image.

We should not try to draw any theological conclusions based on shapes; sounds suspiciously like numerology or nature worship.
