Mariae
As a student at the College of Saints John Fisher and Thomas More, in Fort Worth, Texas, I am writing this letter on my own behalf and that of my fellow students to request your spiritual support and prayers for our college. As you may have never heard of this college before, allow me to tell you a little about it. As a small, Catholic, liberal arts college, Fisher More’s goal is to provide its students with a strong liberal arts education and the faith formation necessary to serve God and the world. Fisher More is extremely unique in two aspects. First, the primary goal of the college is to not only to educate her students in the liberal arts, but also to form them into true and perfect Christians, armed with the virtues and knowledge needed to serve God in the world. The very life of the college is centered around the Catholic faith. The daily schedule of the college revolves around Our Lord in His True Presence in the tabernacle of our small chapel. As students we are daily provided the opportunity and privilege of joining the Universal Church in prayer by attending the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Terce, Vespers, Rosary and Compline. The second aspect that makes the college so unique is that it strives to prevent her students from graduating with a large load of debt, thus leaving them free to promptly pursue their calling in life after graduation. The current yearly cost per student is set at an affordable, $10,000, with additional scholarships available, for those who need them. Additionally, all students participate in what is know as the St. Benedict's program. This program allows students take on various tasks and chores around the college, such as meal preparation, cleaning, and general upkeep of the campus. The program not only allows students to help pay off the expense of their education, but also helps the college to keep expenses to a minimum. On Oct. 22, we, the students, were informed by our college President, Mr. Michael King, that the college fell unexpectedly short of projected estimates during an important fundraising week, held early in October. We were informed that the current deficit would prevent the college from responsibly continuing its on-campus operations through the coming spring semester. Unless the deficit (which currently stands at approx. $250,000) is overcome by the beginning of this December, the college will be reduced to offering only online classes. As students, we have quickly come to love our school and what it stands for. We have already experienced an abundance of graces and are hopeful that the college may continue in full operation, not only for our own sake, but also for that of future students. Although financial assistance is needed, and being sought, we are primarily trying to storm Heaven with prayers. Therefore we are humbly asking you to join your prayers with ours, that God’s will may be accomplished in regard to the coming spring semester. We ask you to pray that God give each of the students and especially our staff and faculty the grace need to endure through this uncertain time, and to accept with gratitude whatever Our Lord has in mind for us. We thank you in advance for your generosity and assure you of our prayers for you and yours. May God reward you. Sincerly, All the students of Fisher More College.
