What does one pray for if they get Antarctica? :|

Welll... actually I bundle Antarctica and Australia as a 2-fer.....   :buddies:

BUT....

Last year I wondered about including Antarctica because, yeah, praying for penguins?  End to global warming?  I didn't know.... I also wondered, whom would they pray for?  :cold:

And then I remembered the time I got a phone call out of the blue.... from one of my acquaintances on the local neighborhood do-good association.  You know, resolve problems in the neighborhood, help get rid of dive bars, plant trees, etc.   Very nice bunch of people, but NO religious content.... got it?

Well, she called me out of the blue and said, hey, "You're Catholic right?"   Uh, yes.  "Well...do you know anybody who just prays for people?  like when they are sick?"  "Yes."  "Well.... I have a friend, actually a former roommate?  She's living at a research station in Antarctica--remember I told you she was leaving?" "Yes...?" "Well she just learned she has breast cancer, and she needs to give herself treatments... and she is really scared.  She's asking if anyone could pray for her or think good thoughts for her.  Do you know anyone?"  I told her yes, I would pray and would get others to pray....

  :pray

And last year I remembered that... and realized that yes, even ANTARCTICA needs prayers.

And I remember wondering myself at what I would ever find to pray about in Japan.  Of course, that was before an Earthquake, Tsunami, nuclear war rumblings, more earthquakes, and all the craziness going on in Syria and the rest of the middle east.  Yup, found a few things.....

So... can I sign you up for a continent and/or virtue, Nihil????

I will take a virtue, please! No continent—already got one of those I pray for regularly.

Thank you!  :buddies:

Each year LilRed offers the chance to have her pick patron saints for us for the coming year.  I believe she intends to do this for Advent again this year!

Last year I offered a similar offer... but not for patron saints.  I offer Virtues and Continents!!!

Many people find it helpful to add a virtue to practice and a continent to pray for during the coming year.  It's the custom in many religious communities, but I think it is a good thing for our Pham to do as well!   St. Therese's community did this --  she prayed especially for North America the last year of her life.

Last year I set up a bowl with the continents listed on slips of paper, and some nice virtues to foster for the coming year in a second bowl.   I'm looking forward to pulling these again this year.

Last year, for example, I received Peacefulness and the Continent of AsiaI have found fostering peacefulness has been a wonderful goal during 2013, and I don't look at news stories from and about Asia and the Middle East without praying for them....

I am going to start pulling and posting them on Sunday evening, November 17,  and I will continue to have them available throughout the end of December 2013.

If you want me to choose a continent and/or virtue for you, please let me know by replying to this post. Let me know if you want one or both....

Thank you!  Pray for me, and I pray for all of you!

Coming Back, I think you are asking for a continent and a virtue?   I am not sure what your cut and paste meant.

(You may have added a line and I am not seeing it....)

I will ask you to count me out of this one. I have to do some specific work with my prayer life, and I think I am tempting myself towards frustration if I try to take on too much too soon.
