CrossCuT
Regardless of what political party you identify with or if you dont at all...please look into the petition and consider signing it. We have all been aggravated and upset by the amount of corruption that has been going on in the government and this act seeks to inspire a national movement for a government that represents the people and not the money. ABOUT THE ACT The Act was crafted by former Federal Election Commission chairman Trevor Potter in consultation with dozens of strategists, democracy reform leaders and constitutional attorneys from across the political spectrum. The Act would transform how elections are financed, how lobbyists influence politics, and how political money is disclosed. It’s a sweeping proposal that would reshape the rules of American politics, and restore ordinary Americans as the most important stakeholders instead of major donors. The Act enjoys support from progressives and conservatives alike. http://anticorruptionact.org Here is a link to a related video explaining how the house just voted to remove almost all of the banking regulations that were put into effect after the recession started and the bill was almost entirely written by AIG and citibank... So, the people who CAUSED the recesison just wrote a bill that gives them the freedom to do it again, and the house said, derp, sounds good GIMME MONEY! PhuturePriest
You can't fight corruption with a corrupt government. That's like fighting fire with gasoline.
CrossCuT
Not really, but if you choose to do nothing thats fine. I for one choose to do something.
Selah
You also can't fight anything with a "petition." Especially an online petition.

To say you cant fight anything with a petition I think is wrong, however if nothing else it spreads awareness and gets peoples heads out of their dairy air. There are a lot of common sense things proposed if you take the time to read it. Its something I think we all would like to see. Oh please. The government is corrupt, they have more power than the people, and some random petition on the internet isn't going to change that. I can spread awareness of the NSA, the TSA, and the NDAA, but that won't make it go away.

r2Dtoo
You also can't fight anything with a "petition." Especially an online petition. Exactly. Just like right-wing groups like to send out carefully worded surveys that any rational person would answer in their favor and then send them to Congress, the left loves themselves some online petitions. Assuming Congress or the President ever acted on a petition they're not just going to simply vote the petition into law. They're going to write "legislation" which you probably will never actually read for yourself, and even if you did unless you speak legalese you're not going to know what it actually means. That's why Washington does, and should, ignore petitions.

Awareness alone does not change things. You need to educate people, motivate then, and given them something to do. Another value of a petition is the ability to show politicians that politically aware/potentially active constituents in their district have a certain view and care about this issue. These are the people that will help re-elect the politician or elect his replacement.
Anastasia13
Not really, but if you choose to do nothing thats fine. I for one choose to do something. Make sure that you are in it for the long haul if you really want to make a difference. No great change was done over night or with a snap of the fingers. Choose wisely and put your heart into it but do not take work home with you at the end of the day.
