Anastasia13
This seems to have some connection to EOs, OOs, and Catholics from what I read on a thread. From what I gather, it was backed by EOs in Russia, has an Armenian (thus likely OO), and is in a place that may have Catholics is no other connection. I have not researched this extensively, but I thought it was cool that this happened. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2013/11/02/in-midst-syrian-war-giant-jesus-statue-arises/ BEIRUT – In the midst of a conflict rife with sectarianism, a giant bronze statue of Jesus has gone up on a Syrian mountain, apparently under cover of a truce among three factions in the country's civil war. Jesus stands, arms outstretched, on the Cherubim mountain, overlooking a route pilgrims took from Constantinople to Jerusalem in ancient times. The statue is 40 feet tall and stands on a base that brings its height to 105 feet, organizers of the project estimate. Another link for you. http://www.themoscowtimes.com/arts_n_ideas/article/muscovite-builds-record-breaking-jesus-statue-in-syria/488312.html Edited November 7, 2013 by Light and Truth
Aya Sophia
Marvelous! I notice the hands are blessing as an Orthodox priest gives a blessing but what is the meaning/significance of two hands blessing? Christ all powerful? Or Christ as bishop (do Orthodox patriarchs bless with both hands?)? The article from fox news has a pic only of the installation process, not of the erected statue. What was your source for the pic of statue installed? (Couldn't open moscow times link)
Gabriela
Lovely statue. And perfect timing... :(

Hmm, good question. I would think Melkites would, but not sure about others.
