IcePrincessKRS
in the winter they don't need ponds, and if you let some go, supposing you get 15, it won't be a big deal if they are wild. The ones you keep just keep a light for them to stay warm in a hut, keep them fed and watered daily and it should be all good. Our ducks never go to a pond. They have this water basin that they jump in sometimes, but mostly they just waddle around in their fence and drink and eat (we have to keep them in the fence because our yard is smaller and they went out into the road twice following Matt when he walked down the street to his sister's house....) homeschoolmom
Please tell me you live in an appropriate environment for animals... I just have this image of you living in downtown Winnepeg and your poor parents wondering where in the world you got the idea for ducks and chickens... homeschoolmom
don't you have to have an exotic pet permit to own peafowl?
IcePrincessKRS
lol No, we actually live on the outskirts of town, basically "in the country" without being in the boondocks, but our actual yard is smaller, about 1/2 an acre (the people around us have larger yards and large fields out behind our property, there's even a pond but our duckers don't venture out back there, just into the road...), but our house is really close to the road. crusader1234
No I live in Tuxedo (not sure if you know what that is) so I have a big back yard. Also, I've been begging my parents for a non fish pet forever since my dad is allergic... so this would be perfect. Outdoors pet that shuts me up. I'm past the begging stage and now that I have some disposable income this would be perfect. I'm opening my RRSP on Monday... which depresses me so this is like my mid teen crisis i geuess you could say - wish I could afford a convertable but you know I dont have THAT good of a job. homeschoolmom
hehehe... not you, Katie... you're a grownup and if you wanted to raise animals in your house, so be it. I was trying to ask Rich if he was about to give his parents nightmares...
IcePrincessKRS
hm... nearest pet shop, look in the phone directory
Thats a nice idea but alot of pet stores don't have ducks. I asked about duck feed at our pet store and they looked at me like I had 2 heads. I went to the farm supply/feed store. The feed store really is a better bet than the regular pet store most of the time.
IcePrincessKRS
heh heh I realized that AFTER I typed out my reply.... I thought you were freaked out because I said our ducks went out into the road. lol
homeschoolmom
Also, I've been begging my parents for a non fish pet forever since my dad is allergic... so this would be perfect.
My daughter has been begging me for a pet (non fish) for two years. I am glad to know I might be able to hold off for another eight or ten...
I'm opening my RRSP on Monday... which depresses me so this is like my mid teen crisis i geuess you could say
don't know what rrsp is... IcePrincessKRS
lol I'm trying convince Matt to let me have a pet other than fish, too.... I'm allergic to cats and he doesn't like dogs (my dream pet would be a weimaraner, but I've recently tacked on chocolate lab as a second best after seeing the most adorable CL puppy outside Wal Mart a couple weeks ago). The ducks are HIS. I figure if I let him add a goose to the collection then maybe I can fanangle the dog in there somewhere....
crusader1234
Here in Canada RRSP's are like partially government funded Retirement Savings Plans (registered retirement saving plan) that have special tax deductions and stuff thrown in. Basically I'm saving up for retirement before I even finish highschool which is slightly Depressing... however its good I guess - If you Invest over 8 years starting at 20 then just let your money compound interest, you'd end up with more money than if you started at 30 and invested until you were 65. Anywyas back on topic, I think I'm going to get something that lays eggs so I can give them to all my hippy friends and be like yeah they are organic haha since organic stuff is so overpriced As for dogs, I always wnated something huge, like a Newf. I think if I had my pick Id get a Komondor - a HUGE dog that has hair that comes in natural dreadlocks.
This is very cool and you are very smart to save as much as you can now. I wish I'd had the money to do that... but I wanted to go to college... You'll probably retire before we do... As for dogs... I'm allegic... especially to the BIG, HAIRY ones...
IcePrincessKRS
Ducks lay eggs. They are bigger than chicken eggs and you can eat them. Imagine that.
