OnlySunshine
financial aid usually includes loans. you're lucky indeed if your financial aid package was 100% grants. Mr. Pell ain't usually that generous. My school also gave me a need-based grant. I'm going to a state university and I'm a resident so the tuition is relatively low. :) Edited November 4, 2013 by MaterMisericordiae

Yep, that's true. I'm being responsible with it, for sure, because I know that there is limited time. I have 8 semesters left on the Pell Grant and I should be done and graduated by then. AnneLine
Mater, I think investing in a tablet makes a lot of sense. My understanding is that the grants can be used for things like that... and if it will make your school life easier and assist you to do better in your courses, I think it makes sense. I remember vividly the day I realized I "NEEDED" a cell phone -- they weren't very common in the late 1990's, but I realized I was trying to juggle work and school and a sick husband... and I was spending a fortune on phone cards and hours hunting down phone booths. People laughed at me for spending the money, but it was the right call. (no pun intended!) Sounds to me like this is fairly comparable... and that from someone who likes taking paper notes. ;)
OnlySunshine
I am absolutely loving my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. It has been a huge help because I'm able to type my Latin homework on it while I'm in class instead of waiting until I get home to use my laptop. The only thing it's missing is an external keyboard (either bluetooth or USB). I'm pricematching and reviewing the choices and I intend to buy one ASAP. I LOVE Polaris Office because it converts the documents you create into Microsoft Word format and makes it fully functional when I email it and then open it up on my laptop so I can print it. I think this is the best $170 + tax I've ever spent. :) Edited November 7, 2013 by MaterMisericordiae
