OnlySunshine
Well, I just got a refund from my school because I had overage of financial aid. I'd like to use this money wisely and purchase a tablet for school since I am CONSTANTLY taking notes but I don't want to haul around my laptop all the time. I went to Target today and saw the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (8GB) and I really liked the way it felt and worked. I didn't buy it at Target though because the price is better on Amazon and at Walmart. I started comparing tablets and some on Amazon said that Google Nexus was better in terms of processing speed. I need a tablet, obviously, that has note-taking capability - preferably one that I can use an app like Evernote on. I looked at Samsung Galaxy Note but that's too far out of my budget range. I really would like to stay less than $300 because it's a tablet not a regular computer. My current computer cost $500. I've already decided against an iPad or iPad mini, so please disregard them. They are just WAY too expensive. Any recommendations? ;)
The Bus Station
It doesn't come with a charger though.
darcy15
Love my Kindle Fire HD 😃 Fast, stunning picture quality and really good sound. Plenty of Apps available - including Evernote
Nihil Obstat
If you can find one in your price range, a tablet that runs Microsoft Office would be really good. I sell the Asus Vivotab sometimes, but I think it's a bit higher than your price range. I think you could get a Microsoft Surface RT for $350 ish, and I would be comfortable recommending that one. Especially if you already use Office on your current computer.
Nihil Obstat
I do like Samsung's tablets, but if I were wanting to use one as a student I probably would not. In my purely personal and subjective opinion the Android OS is less useful as a business/studying tool than Microsoft. My main recommendation would be to not buy the cheapest one you can find, because its processor will be sluggish, it will crash, and overall you will be constantly frustrated with it. Buy one with the best processor you can afford. Edited November 1, 2013 by Nihil Obstat
GeorgiiMichael
I agree with Nihil. Try for the Microsoft Surface RT. It'll work much better for notetaking if that's what you think you'll be using it for primarily. They're just a bit outside your price range, and they'll suit your needs much better than the other things on the market.
r2Dtoo
$350 with or without the keyboard?

OnlySunshine
I am unable to afford a more expensive tablet so I checked reviews online and decided on the Samsung Galaxy Tab3. It has dual processors and I'm loving it already. My next purchase is a Bluetooth keyboard and case combined. Its got a lot of nice functions, too. arfink
Android does work well for business and student settings, but you have to be willing to explore non-Microsoft products. I know many people are chained by the hip to Microsoft suite products, which is highly unfortunate, but there are plenty of productivity software suites available for Android which work just fine, and many of them are inexpensive or free. Brother Adam
If the refund check came from a loan, return it to the loan company.
blazeingstar
If the refund check came from a loan, return it to the loan company. I cannot prompt this enough. At 6.8% interest by the time you pay it off in the typical 10 years you will have paid 2 cents a day for it. that's $
OnlySunshine
If the refund check came from a loan, return it to the loan company. I don't have any loans. This is strictly financial AID -- the kind you don't have to pay back. I hate student loans. ;)
Lilllabettt
financial aid usually includes loans. you're lucky indeed if your financial aid package was 100% grants. Mr. Pell ain't usually that generous.
