Someone Tried To Break Into Our House

I mean literally break into. Broken first floor window, baseball bat dent in the front door, the front door handle was hit and shaken so hard the screws were loose (thank God for deadbolts).

Our neighbor's girlfriend got mad at him for some small thing (she was off her meds) and went kinda crazy. He was running from her and went to our condo next door to stay safe. Apparently she took a baseball bat to the UHaul truck they are renting, was throwing things out of their front door and off their porch, was breaking a bunch of stuff in their house. Then she tried getting to him again and came over and pounded on our door, hit it with a bat a few times when he wouldn't come out, and on her way back to her unit threw 2 D sized batteries through our downstairs window. Then she started trying to break through their kitchen wall into our unit. Then she came back out with lighter fluid and was going to set one of the cars on fire. The whole time she was looking for a revolver that her boyfriend hid a few days ago after she said something about being depressed.

My wife, 2 year old and 2 month old were home. I was at work. I felt so helpless. I have a rifle at home and would have gone straight for it if I was home just in case she did get in somehow.

Police came, took her away.

Yikes, very scary! I don't blame him for hiding at your place, better a door dented than somebody in ICU. Still, that's freaky stuff. Are the kids doing ok with it?

I'll be praying for all of you.

hectic, hopefully she gets well. Praying in 30 seconds. If she was on psychiatric medicine or anti depressants or barbiturates i think you have to come off them slowly, there is withdrawal symptoms, just so you know.

God bless you and your family.

Dear goodness. I'm glad everyone is safe! I remember one time when I was really young someone broke into our house at night. My sister always stayed up late on the computer (Like sister, like brother, I suppose), and at twelve or perhaps later she heard the dogs start barking crazily, so she went to look at what was going on, and there was a guy two feet past the door, and they both froze when they saw each other. He ran for it immediately after, thankfully. I remember there was another instance where someone tried to break into our house but was unsuccessful. It was really weird, really, because we lived in a very nice neighborhood where that type of stuff never happened.

I'm glad everyone is safe. Just try to relax; you might be wary of sleeping for a while, or about leaving your wife and kids alone, but that goes away soon enough. Getting your wife a concealed carry permit is never a bad idea, though.

We just found out talking to the police that it wasn't a car she was going to set on fire. She was going to throw the lighter fluid through our broken bedroom window and light our condo on fire. She had lighter fluid and matches in hand headed towards our condo when the police arrived and detained her.

A couple more minutes and our condo probably would have burned. My wife and I are extremely shaken up by this, especially by the new news that it was our house she was going to burn down with my wife and kids inside. Please pray for us for peace and healing, as this is very emotionally traumatic.

Don't need a permit to concealed carry in Alaska. Just a gun. I'm already looking into a .357. We could use one anyways for our hikes in the woods for bear protection.

Oh wow!!! :(

Lots of prayers for you and your family!

But prayers also for the women because she must be struggling with severe mental illness.

Come home to a guy in my house this summer. Scary afterwards. During it's all instinct. He was so drunk/high he thought we were the 7-11 and he was waiting for a friend.

Slappo, that had to be terrifying for all of you.   And I agree that it is scarier AFTERWARDS when the adrenaline surge is over and you realize all the might-have-been nightmares.  Any way you can get some kind of a security monitoring system going?  Because that might help your wife & kids feel safer when you can't be there.

Holding all of you in very special prayer....

Alaska is awesome like that, I guess.

Do you know much about guns? .357 magnums are great because they are heavy, and that takes away a lot of the kick you would have with a more compact gun like a Glock .45. It's all about taste, though. I prefer Glocks over magnums, but that's more for vain reasons than practical ones.
