Hey folks. I was thinking: it would be really nice to have a little book(let?) that told you about how to behave in Mass (for instance, the proper way to cross yourself; what's up with the holy water; etc.) as well as a quick-n-dirty reference guide (definitions of terms like "scapular" and "Eucharist"; what is a rosary, parts of a bishop's vestments, etc.). Have any of you found anything like this?

I'm thinking something more like a pictorial encyclopedia, rather that a big doctrinal discussion of why all these things happen (important, but not what I'm looking for).

I mean, who teaches converts how to cross themselves?! :(

The Catholic Source Book might be useful for you. It's rather big, but it includes things like basic prayers and devotions, explanations of things like scapulars and sacramentals. None of it is in depth or difficult to read, and it has pictures ;)

Definitely start with Catholicism for Dummies. I've been a Catholic for a long time and I learned lots of interesting things. :)

Couple of suggestions:

Sit in an RCIA class and ask the leader afterwords if someone can take you on a walk through the mass.

Just make an appointment with a priest and sit down and ask him questions. Most priests are happy to help folks out in this manner.

There are several good videos out there that walk through the mass and answer such questions. I'll see what I can find and get back to you.

oh yes, I am also going to say Catholicism for Dummies, I haven't read the whole thing, but the overview and basics it gives is excellent. just by paging through it, it helped me put together kind of fragmented knowledge I had of some subjects.
