Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
Hey, Tab, We DO love and care about you. And want to see you happy. You don't have to take Josh's advice about sobriety, but you know he is fighting his own battles with alcohol. He seems to be finding AA to be a very helpful thing on his journey to God and toward sobriety. And my dad found it truly a God-send for his 30 or so years of sobriety as well.... And... as a person who doesn't drink much, but grew up in a family that was two inches deep in the stuff.... I found going to the group for families, Alanon, was really helpful during part of my own growth as well. Even if you aren't convinced you have a serious problem, you will seldom meet a nicer bunch of people who are all trying to find God and live their lives the best they can, day by day, than at an AA meeting. Yould even attend an 'open' AA meeting ('open' meaning open to the general public, not just those who have decided they need to admit a dependence on alcohol) to see if you would find it helpful... and I think you would, if only to get an impetus for your own prayer for those who struggle. And I'll second the suggestion about the Fr. Emmerich Vogt, OP tapes -- Fr E is well known in the Western Dominican Province for his ministry, and he is an AAAAAwesome preacher. I think you'd like them.... praying for you  I have tried a.a. multiple times over 3 years, i don't seem to really connect with the whole thing, and again i don't believe i'm an alcoholic but if it comes to that i will do the program. I know i have a problem and it causes me some trouble but not to the stage where my life has become unmanageable, though there is some unmanageability in the matter of the day after getting drunk and the fear of going to hell, or perhaps it's just a hangover and my mind is weakened by getting drunk and the devil gets in there and rips me apart, but they get worse and worse the older i get whatever it is. I'm really tired of getting drunk, i've tried thrice a week, i've tried once a week, i've tried once a fortnight, i've tried once a month, and i've even tried once every 3 months, all successfully to a degree in that i have accomplished that goal except the once a week and thrice a week, the thrice a week was before i became a christian and the once a week was more like a 6 pack once a week not blind, and the once a fortnight was a blind adventure as was the once a month and the once every 3 months, i couldn't do the once every 3 months, i have been asking our Lord and searching as to what saint paul meant when he said drunkardness is evil, was it never get drunk or was it don't regularly get drunk, i'm thinking he meant never now or extremely rarely no more then 2 or 3 times a year and not all in a row. A priest told me my drinking is between me and the LORD, something i have to figure out, with fear and trembling i guess, he said everyone has a different level that is responsible when it comes to alcohol. Onward christian souls. Jesus iz LORD.
