A Spyderco Tenacious will run you $30-40. That is their most popular entry level model. Excellent knife if you cannot quite afford the Endura at around $60-70.

I believe the Tenacious uses 8Cr13MOV steel, which is just fine for an entry level knife. When you upgrade into the $50-100 range you are getting VG-10 steel, then $100+ you can get knives in CPM S30V, which is phenomenal.

Spyderco ergonomics are better than Kershaw, IMO. Their FRN scales are just fine for normal use. Their texture is very grippy, even if you are wearing gloves or if it is wet or cold. It is flexible enough that you are not likely to damage it without serious abuse. The Tenacious uses G10 scales which are also great. Spyderco uses G10 for the Tenacious and the other knives in that price point, then the next price point up usually has FRN standard. They use a somewhat higher quality G10 as an upgrade, and as the standard scale for the high end knives in their catalogue. A few special knives have carbon fibre and titanium scales, but I am not a fan of those in terms of utility. They look lovely, but G10 and FRN are both superior in terms of grip. Titanium adds a lot of weight and does not grip that well, and the carbon fibre is rather slippery.

I am not an enormous fan of the Tenacious' liner lock, but it works just fine for its intended purposes. For the $60 range you usually get a lockback design, then in the higher end Spydercos you are looking at ball bearing or compression locks.

Anyway, the moral of my story is that if you cannot afford high end knives, the Spyderco Tenacious is by far the best choice.

The knife I have on me every day is kind of similar in blade geometry and overall design.

It is an excellent knife. S30V steel, very nice G10 with full skeletonized steel liners. That is the ball-bearing lock, which is very strong, and if you manage to abuse the lock badly enough to make it fail, it actually fails into a locked position, so there is no chance of freak lock accidents. I especially love the ergonomics of the finger choil. Lets you really choke up on your grip.

It is a bit big and heavy though. Most people find it too big for an EDC knife. I disagree, but I see their point.

Also, you're going to have to tune out of Josh Groban and into Hunter Hayes.

Never. Country is nothing compared to Josh Groban.

Hunter Hayes outweighs any country music.

Let me make myself more clear: Except for Michael Buble and Bruce Dickinson, nothing compares to Josh Groban. I don't care how deluded your thought-process is, this is simply the fact of the matter.

All I can say is: What is fact? What is truth?
