It's 6:30AM here on Wednesday and the temperature has already hit 21C (approximately 70F). We're set for a very hot day.

Please say a prayer for my dad today. It's his birthday and he's travelling up north for work to an area near where quite a few smaller fires have been burning. He should be ok, but my mum is a little worried.

All things look to you, O Lord, to give them their food in due season:
look in mercy on your people, and hear our prayer for those whose lives and possessions are threatened by fire.
Give protection and wisdom to fire fighters and other emergency service personnel.

Encourage our generosity to those who suffer loss.
In your mercy restore your creation and heal our land.
So guide and bless your people, that we may enjoy the fruits of the earth and give you thanks with grateful hearts,
through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

A student in my Honours class has been called up for Army Reserve duty and deployed to combat the fire threat. He'll finish his thesis when he returns. Please pray for him, too.

I really feel for the elderly and for people living away from family and friends. One of the women I teach Scripture with told me that an elderly relative of hers lives in Mt Victoria and is refusing to leave, which is making her very worried. It must be very difficult for people to just leave everything behind.

The burning embers are causing a big problem in Springwood. I hope the wind eases up soon.

I like this picture and how these guys can afford to smile. Good idea too that if you live in the bush to also own a caravan just in case your house gets burnt down. Thumbs up guys.

Yeah, I'm really blown away by the stories of generosity. More here: http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/uplifting-stories-to-come-out-of-the-nsw-bushfires-20131023-2w0ag.html

Generous spirit: The Penrith Panthers (rugby league club) are putting up 800 interstate firefighters in a 'tent city', including serving them meals.

Heroes: Firefighters taking a well-deserved break. Most of the firefighters tackling the blazes in NSW are volunteers.

The Springwood fire just been downgraded to 'Watch and Act' in the last ten minutes. The RFS says it is still burning in the Faulconbridge and Springwood areas but "properties are no longer under immediate threat".

Only the Gateshead fire near Lake Macquarie remains at the 'Emergency' alert level this evening.

73 fires still burning across NSW

29 of the 73 fires burning across NSW remain uncontained, reports RFS commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons at Wednesday's media briefing.

Catherine Therese

Love some of those pictures y'all shared :)
Just a quick update that we're fine. We evacuated during the day as a precaution but the risk to our area has downgraded significantly and we are back under our own roof again already.

Thanks for your prayers... Please keep praying, and I'll join you, for all those for whom the risk or impact has not yet passed.
