blazeingstar
Maybe because we are confused about what qualifies for art these days?
Basilisa Marie
I think it shows us that it's not the piece of art itself that is valuable, but everything else that goes along with it - the history, the circumstances, the artist, etc. Banksy is so valuable right now because of his place in the UK graffiti scene and the whole history of his body of work. Some artists are famous because of their revolutionary techniques...but even those "new" techniques have more to do with the fact that they're some of the first examples of it than with the technique itself. Although if I'd had the money, I might have bought one of those ones with the riot guy with a bandanna throwing a bunch of flowers. But I also happen to like spray art. I have a small spray art ballerina picture hanging in my room (that I bought at a farmers market, after negotiating the price). arfink
I think it says more about the art market in the US perhaps. Or the the fact that in the US people still don't think of graffiti as art.

Anastasia13
Maybe some of us are in the wrong fields and should go into art.

God the Father
What lesson does this teach about life? Art history majors with hyphenated names who work for NBC aren't as smart as they think they are. Stunnedddd
Era Might
Product, Price, Place, Promotion This guy didn't have a very good marketing mix. He was too busy eating his lunch. Edited October 16, 2013 by Era Might
Slappo
I think it tells us that the average joe blow walking down the streets of new york is not an art enthusiast... I'm not sure I could tell the difference between boxed wine and a $250 bottle, but I'd enjoy drinking them both!
