TheresaThoma
Aren't thrift stores the best? I've gotten both costume stuff and actual clothes there! I might be getting together with some friends so I might dress up as a saint, St Clare would be fun!
Spem in alium
I just went to a thrift store with a few friends and bought a long sleeveless red dress, a black scarf to wear over it because I really don't think bare shoulders fits the concept of St. Clare (I mean, I'm not sure if the dress and scarf combo is really a great fit for St. Clare at all, but I'm confined to 21st century stores, no sewing machine nearby, and being on a college budget and schedule.), and a couple of pretty necklaces (I didn't think the ones I have would necessarily work with the dress). I might try to make a flower crown, and I might not. I'd like to, but I'm not sure if it would fit with the dress.... We'll see. (And I bought a butter dish. But that's another topic.) Sounds excellent! I love thrift stores (or op shops, as they're usually called here). :)
cartermia
I went to Wal-Mart last night, forcing my dad to take me, and bought fabric, eyelets, and thick/thin gold ribbon. I have a flower crown I can wear with it. No school tomorrow so I know what I am working on!
Gabriela
I don't get the whole dressing up as someone else thing. I never did. I went along with it as a kid, but I grew out of it really fast. Now... I just don't get it. Though it's pretty obvious what Nihil will be this Halloween.

Unfortunately that mask costs $35, and I have nobody to whom I can show it off.
Chrysophylax
My sisters and I just went the thrift store yesterday to get costume type things for our Halloween party we are having! It was a sucess. I am going to be Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians. I even got the white hair spray stuff. Should be fun! With the elven ideas, I just wanted to mention, my sister made the most amazing cape with a big hood and everything. It is dark blue on the outside (I can't remember if the blue is a crushed velvet or a really nice polar fleece), with fancy gold satin on the inside. And it has nice trim on the edges too. However... It is so hot that she only wears it in really deep winter, which luckily we have for a few months every year here in MN. I should get a picture of it and post it! Maybe when she gets home later.... Seven77
Why buy a dumb Mr. Ed horse mask when you can buy a magical unicorn mask? I am in awe over this...maybe even disturbingly so: http://www.amazon.com/Accoutrements-12283-Magical-Unicorn-Mask/dp/B0070QMUFA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1382148740&sr=8-2&keywords=unicorn+mask

There is a costume shop down the street from my house that sells a variety of horse masks.

TheresaThoma
So I'm totally stealing the whole St Clare before investiture idea. I went to the thrift store today and found this dress http://image001.mywedding.com/11/817/11817277_475.jpg?1222295709 It was torn on one side where the sash is and is missing the tie in the back. I removed the rest of the sash piece. I'm using instead a bit of heavish gold cord. I was debating about what to do with the halter top but I think I have a way to work around that. I'm going to wear a long sleeved shirt/blouse underneath and add on a mantel (cape type thingy. Should be pretty simple. I might also wear a crown of flowers.
