Has Phatmass Changed, Or Have I?

I speak for myself when I say this, but for me, both Open Mic and Debate Table have been completely wrecked for me of late by the topics being discussed and the tone being used. And also a thing called Real Life.

Agreed. You can't say anything around here without somebody jumping your ship. I expect that from the ones who aren't Catholic at all or are just barely Catholic, although I can't figure out why they keep posting to a board where they disagree with everybody. Some sort of weird mental self-pleasuring, I suppose.

But it bothers me more when the Catholics jump each other's ship.

In any case, it makes me not want to post very often. When I do, I don't usually say what I actually think.

Prediction: At least people will jump my ship in response to this post.

Yeah, I can relate to that. I guess maybe it's boring because I look at the titles of the "HOT" threads and refuse to go in. I know it's all just going to be arguing. And not the nice, productive kind, either. The sarcastic, mean, personal attack kind... :-(

I think jumping someone elses ship is ok,if the ship is sturdy it won't sink but i guess prudence in discerning whether somone elses ship is sturdy is another matter, helping them repair it is a better option then sinking it or at least if your going to sink it they have to agree that there ship has had it and needs to be thrown out/sunk, but then let them jump on board yours if there ship is ready to be sunk. But also as christians we shouldn't actually be arguing with each other, we should be discussing or debating, a debate doesn't have to be an argument, and your correct that we shouldn't deliberately put someone else down even if it is deemed as being sarcastic and a joke, particularly people you don't know so well and people that have stated they don't like that kind of playing.

hmmm.... if there are actual personal attacks going on, feel free to report them... we have some annoying opinions around here but I don't see personal attacks much myself... just sometimes hard headed people on any given side sometimes who don't seem to be listening at all to the other side sometimes (but that always happens)... anyway, I wonder what this is specifically about... we're generally taking a hands off moderator approach as much as possible these days, but we are interested in hearing anything that seems like a personal attack.

but anyway, we want people who aren't Catholic at all to be here and to say interesting opposition points of view, they're absolutely welcome to be here and to say things that we vehemently disagree with, of course personal attacks aren't allowed but neither are they required to agree with us even when we think it'd be reasonable for them to do so lol... I have always found it strange when people get on our non-Catholic posters asking them why they bother sticking around if they're so non-Catholic... we're not supposed to be some isolated only-Catholics-allowed board here, we honestly don't have nearly enough non-Catholic posters actually... the glory days of Phatmass IMHO were when there were real debates with real protestants saying things we really disagreed with.
