Gabriela
Do you think it's based on that Florida case of the kid who refused to stomp on a piece of paper with "God" written on it?
CatholicsAreKewl
Do you think it's based on that Florida case of the kid who refused to stomp on a piece of paper with "God" written on it? Thanks for sharing! Fox News obtained a synopsis of the lesson that got Rotela in trouble. “Have the students write the name JESUS in big letters on a piece of paper,†the lesson reads. “Ask the students to stand up and put the paper on the floor in front of them with the name facing up. Ask the students to think about it for a moment. After a brief period of silence instruct them to step on the paper. Most will hesitate. Ask why they can’t step on the paper. Discuss the importance of symbols in culture.†http://radio.foxnews.com/toddstarnes/top-stories/professor-makes-students-stomp-on-jesus.html Weird. I can't tell what exactly happened. This article makes it look like the kid missed the point of the lesson. Another article I read depicts the prof as forcing the student to participate and punishing him for not doing so. Aloysius
yeah I remember that story... when it first came out it was made to sound like the kid got in trouble for refusing to step on the paper, then the details of the assignment came out and it was clear that part of the assignment was for people to not step on the paper and to ask them why that was. hard to make heads or tails of it, but the way I figure it happened was that the kid took the assignment as an impetus to start an evangelical crusade and accuse the professor of being some infidel for even suggesting people step on the papers in the first place, that he got disruptive, and was therefore asked to leave the class. but who knows what really happened, I guess. John Ryan
I might watch this just because I enjoy Shane Harper. His song Rocketship is über-cute, and I love him as Spencer on Good Luck Charlie. Somehow I doubt that the philosophic debate between Harper and Sorbo will be anything more than stereotypes on repeat. Aloysius
yeah and I'm sure Sorbo will have some big unrealistic conversion where he admits he was wrong. you can tell the debate's not going to be very good when the kid goes "science proves God exists, why do you hate Him?" so ridiculous, science doesn't prove God exists... of course the wonders of creation point to God existing, but we can only know that through a philosophical reflection on those wonders, there's nothing about science itself that proves or disproves the existence of God. it would actually be neat if a movie like this was made with good legitimate arguments on both sides instead of strawmen,,, and also foregoing the deus ex machina conversion I assume will be at the end of this one, maybe in its place just have the professor admit he respects the theistic position more or something. I went to a really cool play once in which CS Lewis debated Sigmund Freud on the existence of God which was really profound, it'd be great if a movie like this were made something like that. Not A Mallard
It's a "Christian" film with no sympathy towards atheists (at least the ones who don't eventually convert), and a world where every atheist (who doesn't eventually convert) is a jerk is not a truthful world.
