4588686
Political disengagement is a political act. You can retreat it but it's just the easy out. Power changes things. If you choose to create a vacuum for the worst actors to fill then that's a pretty morally dubious choice.
4588686
The establishment side of both parties doesn't really care about the poor or the unborn. They are effectively the same party along with most of the mainstream media. You don't need to vote for either, their are other options. We need to get rid of the two party only system. This idea of an 'establishment' and a 'non-establishment' aspect of a party is just dumb. All of the republican party is an establishment, including the part that you support. Same is true for the various aspects of the Democratic apparatus.
Anastasia13
Vote for people, not parties. Still, the Republican party should hire me to do PR for them.

Those people are supported and funded by parties. It's really not right to speak about parties. It's really an apparatus.
havok579257
Vote for people, not parties. Still, the Republican party should hire me to do PR for them. well the problem is for the vast majority voting for a person is voting for a party platform. Most all republicans or democrats vote according to party platforms.

It's just a term to differentiate between the 'old guard' Republicans and the new guard. Or the Rockefeller type vs the Libertarian type.

havok579257
I disagree that choosing not to vote is the same as disengaging. I think its the same if all you do is choose not to vote. Now if you choose not to vote and are doing things to promote a third party system then that's another thing. Although just refusing to vote and doing nothing else would not be right. John Ryan
Who was the Democratic Socialist candidate? A man by the name of Stewart Alexander. An acquaintance of mine who ran with the party won election for a local school board.

Aloysius
with this poll one has to account for the numbers of people that have grown who are basically Republicans but refuse to call themselves Republicans and will tell you they hate the Republican party if you ask them... ala Glenn Beck... actually that kind of terminology is becoming quite mainstream among conservative talk radio these days, or so I've garnered from the facebooks of my conservative political junky friends. I like how this last ridiculous farce showed off Ted Cruz as an extremist who shut down the government, while Rand Paul largely came off (to those who paid attention to him) as a moderate who wanted to negotiate and compromise the whole way through... his only two questions of Cruz during Cruz's fake filibuster were "would you be willing to compromise?" haha... this was Chris Matthews's take on it, too anyway, I do think we are approaching a boiling point of people who want to say "a pox on both their houses"... but unless someone with a lot of wealth and no big skeletons in their closet (and maybe no vulnerable family members that could get threatened, or at least they need to be able to afford some private security, so they don't get Ross Perot'd out of the race for a while) actually decides to run third party, it's going to be the same farce in 2016. of course, Jesse Ventura claims he will run lol.... we'll always have those little side shows to remind us that it'd be crazy to support anyone other than the R or the D, they're the only ones saving us from the Donald Trumps and Jesse Venturas of the world, right? lol... what's Ross Perot's son been up to these days? hmmm...
