I Would (not) Make A Good Nun Because

This thread is supposed to be funny, but it can also be on a serious note.

I would make a good nun because

-I don't care much about possessions, so the vow of poverty would be easy;

-I don't feel claustrophobic in a cloister (well, most of the time  :hehe: )

-I like helping others and I think this is important in community life.

On the other hand, I would not make a good nun because

-I can't sing well...

-Sleeping in is one of my passions

-I have a hard time accepting criticism

I would (not) make a good nun because...

- any requirement to limit my intake of caffeine would prove an unbearable penance for the members of my community

I would not make a good nun because I open my mouth to speak my mind on every conceivable topic no matter what.

I would not make a good nun because I day dream.

I would not make a good nun because I sing sub-vocce as I go about my day and would be a cause of temptation to my Sisters to murder me for this infuriating habit!

I would not make a good nun because:

I also have the pernicious coffee habit :paperbag:  (see how brown and pretty it is???!!!)

I really don't like dropping everything at the moment the bell rings

I don't like doing my meditation in a room filled with other people....

I HATE EARLY MORNINGS WITHOUT COFFEE especially in the winter!!!!

and...

Explaining my husband would be difficult for me and for the community.

Oh!  I think you wanted BOTH parts of why we would/would not be good at this?

I would make a good nun because....

I would try to make living in community prayerful and loving

I would love to share my gifts and skills with the sisters and brothers (hey we can have fun with this!)

The others would inspire me to pray regularly and do other things to increase my virtue

I make a VERY good cup of coffee!!!

Add chocolate to that and you will have two good reasons why I wouldn't make a good nun.  Although I could potentially be helping my sisters work of time in purgatory.

I have an excellent sense of humor which I think might be helpful when living in community.

I would not make a good nun because...

-I'm a serious night owl, 4am is a typical bedtime for me.

-The lack of Mt Dew in my system would cause my sisters to lock in a closet for extended periods of time
-My singing  voice has been compared to Scuttle the seagull from Little Mermaid

The first one could be fixed IF you would consider the ministry of the Servants of Mary, Ministers of the Sick... some sisters work a reverse schedule.... and they stay up all night caring for the sick in their own homes.  I bet they could even handle the Mt. Dew addiction.....  ;)

Blessed&Grateful

I would not make a good nun because:

I am a day-dreamer, with a mind that never sits still but wanders the universe.

I have a tendency to be hermit-like, days can go by without need or desire for companionship.

I am spontaneous, adhering to a schedule is difficult for me.

I would make a good nun:

because comtemplation, solitude and prayer comes easily to me.

I have no problem with doing without questioning.

Reasons

- feel I am called to create something outside of a cloister.

- need medication.

- think being in a cloister would make for good comedy material. Maybe if I work on my delivery, I can get a mic in LA or NY...

- hate medication, unless I am driving.

- listen to primarily secular music

- don't know how well I would function well without internet before bed or when I can't sleep.

- can be self-conscious dancing.

- can't imagine getting past 50 and not having a spouse or children in my life

Questionable:

- cook experiments.

- have very eclectic taste in music.

I HATE EARLY MORNINGS WITHOUT COFFEE especially in the winter!!!!

We were, blessedly, permitted a before-morning-prayer coffee!!

It was one novice's responsibility to set coffee machines to brew at 5am. Literally the moment you heard the bell ring in the morning, people were tumbling out of bed and rushing downstairs in their robes to get a quick cup to take back upstairs whilst they changed into their habits before coming downstairs for meditation and prayers. Since the day started with meditation, followed by lauds, followed by Mass, there was plenty of time that the coffee did not interfere with the Communion fast... it was SUCH a small mercy that made the early starts so much more practical for weak night-owls such as myself :)

The trick was managing it all and getting the cups washed up whilst still maintaining profound silence and being in the chapel by 5.25am. A fine art :)

I would not make a good nun because:

I am an insomniac (although that's getting better with school).

I love Coca-Cola and find it very difficult to give it up.

I'm picky about what I eat (I also have a wheat allergy and lactose intolerance).

I don't take criticism very well.

I would make a good nun because:

I am a team-player and I can work together to get things done.

I'm a good singer and can sing in the nun choir.

I already know the proper postures for the Divine Office.
